A Saison (Say-Sahn) is a Belgian Farmhouse Summer Beer, referring to the simple fact that very small “farmhouse” breweries typically made these beers. Lighter in alcohol, ours is 7.5% (not exactly light but that’s just us!) and golden to orange in color and unfiltered. Ours is spiced with both Apricot puree and Black Pepper. The taste is light, refreshing and nicely fruited to start. Medium mouth-feel. After taking a drink, the black pepper dries the palate and creates a nice tingling sensation on the tongue.

Pours a golden yellow color with aroma of pepper, apricot, and yeast. Apricot sweetness with pepper, yeast, and some funk. Very nice beer!

Draft at Nebraska Brewing tap room. Poured hazy golden, white head. Aroma was funky, fruit, apricot, wood. Taste was fruity, apricot, earthy.

Aromas and flavors of yeast, apricot and pepper. A little tart but well blended. Orange-gold color. Thin head. Dry finish.

BuckeyeBoy (8570) - Boise, Idaho, USA - SEP 4, 2016
750ml bottle pours out a hazy apricot topped with a small white head. Nose is light stone fruit banana spice barrel notes and some tartness funk. Taste is more of the light apricot yeast wood and light tartness.

750ml bottle. The beer is a light gold. Liquid is moderately hazy. Fairly large white head. Puffs up nicely with fine bubbles. Some lacing, good retention. The aroma is quite nice. Sweet apricots on top of muted peppercorns. The barrel is medium-light in strength but adds a nice level of complexity to the beer with grapes, mild pleasant butter and light oak. Just a hint of sourness. The taste has moderate tartness. A bit less apricot flavor. A bit more pepper, a bunch more oak. Finish has more bitterness than I’d prefer. It’s pleasant but could use a bunch more stone fruit juiciness. Light-medium body. Lower carbonation than expected. Fairly soft feel. Solid apricot sour.

floydslip (424) - Washington DC, USA - JUL 25, 2016
Cloudy apple cider colored beer with a medium foamy bright white head that lasts. Subtle nose of vanilla, sweet cream, and a hint of fruit, but all of it is quite light. Flavor is more rich with bright apricot, lemon curd, and a bit of white vinegar with little of the creamy notes from the aroma. I really don’t pick up the pepper, but there is a slight spicy bite in the aftertaste. Good beer.

Tap at the Watery Hole. Aroma is loads of apricot, peach too, no pepper. Very strong and boozy aroma. Taste is similar, some creaminess, fruit again, of course, maybe a touch of pepper at the end, but can hardly get it. Bit too full bodied for me.

Cavie (4837) - Arlington, Texas, USA - JUL 15, 2016
Tap at Kool Keg. Fairly clear orange yellow color. White head. Woody notes upfront. Fruity notes apparent; wine. Flavor is Woody, fruit and grapes, saison zest, easy finish. Nice. Some vanilla as well. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Nicely hazy and dirty orange. Bit of foam. Fruity aroma, some sour notes but not too much of them. Taste is nicely funky, farmhouse style. Fruity and has still some malty backbone. Long malty and reward finish. Pretty nice actually.

TimE (6175) - Tokyo, JAPAN - JUL 1, 2016
dirty amber color. Lovely sour dry nose with oak and peaches and a bit of funk. Medium full body with tons of oak. Dry funky and tart. Big lingering peach finish. Very very nice
