COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fathead started out as a Strong Scotch Ale but has morphed over time into Barleywine territory. This beer features an addition of dark brown sugar to boost the alcohol and contribute a unique caramel/molasses character. Hopped with just enough Centennial and Cascade to offset the slight sweetness of this big, warming beer.

Dark mahogany pour... Aroma of caramel malts, whiskey, smoke, tobacco... Flavor is rich in toffee and caramel malts, plum, fig, tobacco with whiskey on palate... Not much bitterness, great beer ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

750 ml Bottle. Deep amber colored appearance with a sudsy layer of beige foam. Strong notes of tart fruit, toasted oak, toffee and wheat malt in the nose. Flavor starts out with brown sugar, whiskey and dark fruits upfront along with some vanilla, black cherry and caramelized sugars toward the end. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied with moderate carbonation and an oaky, caramel malted finish. Overall, a unique Belgian style BA Barley Wine.

Dry, boozy and bitter, with a pleasant sweetness. Great companion to food, and very enjoyable all by itself. Plenty of floral elements from the hops, too.

Sampled at festival. Dry and bitter, some alcohol and there are hops as well. One of the more dry barleywines I have had in a long time. Aftertaste is dry with more alcohol.

bottle at Coles Barleywine Contest 2015, pretty good, not too much BW notes but tasty. Almost a brett like flavor, fruity floral with some whiskey barrel aging notes. nice

Much more malty than barley wines I'm accustomed to. High abv not evident. Rich caramel color and aroma

Pours a rich copper color with beige head. Aroma is bread, some whiskey and a touch of candied figs. The mouthfeel is a little thin for this style of beer. I usually like a bit more legs on a BA barleywine. Some sweetness. Balanced. the booze is well hidden.

Bottle - Sweet vinous and plum notes. Clear dark copper with a thin white head. Sweet plum, light booze, caramel and light hoppy notes. Definitely American style, sweet and hoppy.

CapFlu (5129) - Victoria, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 11, 2015
Thin white head atop a clouded brown body. Nose of leather and whiskey. Flavour of whiskey cask and vanilla with undertones sweet malt. Good.

onceblind (10095) - Denver, Colorado, USA - DEC 24, 2014
Murky hazy brown with a big woody barrel note with slightly sour toffee. Big smooth flavor of oak, gentle whiskey and mellow dark toffee malt. Smooth and drinkable but nothing really stands out.
