COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black as night and every bit Imperial, this RIS was originally launched to tremendous accolades. Aged in Whiskey barrels, this barrel aged version meshes the rich chocolates and the coffee-like aromatics with the sweet whiskey nose and drying character of the oak. Slightly behind on the palate are the hops, held in restraint by the wonderfully full mouth-feel and broad flavors brought on by the perfect blend of so many malted barley varieties. Ready to enjoy now and perfect for extended cellaring.

Black Betty is Nebraska Brewing’s lovingly-made Imperial Stout. It’s one of the select few brews that puts the brewery, and Nebraska as a whole, on the map. In my typical ass-backward way, I had most of the other Betty variants before I had the one that preceded them all. While unorthodox, it just might have been the best way to really appreciate the matriarch of this series. Black Betty is a pure American-style Imperial Stout. It’s as black, opaque, and thick as wet soil. Roasted grain aromatics with some coffee-like qualities. Rich, full-bodied barley char on the palate. Bittersweet malt that clings to every surface of the mouth. Long, dry finish. A hint of American, resinous hops come from the huge malt foundation. It’s one of the best things that Nebraska Brewing Company will ever put their name on.

Bottle. Teku. Pitch black with densed, light brown head. Very long head retention and excellent lacing. Light heavy malty profile - mainly roasted, dark chocolate. Also light to moderate woody, vanilla, some tabbaco and dirty earthy notes in the end. Taste is semi-sweet with some dry and bitter character in the end. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation, finish is bitter, dry with nice barrels accents. In general the appearance, head formation and lacing is a "gold standard" for other imperial stouts here. ABV is also extremely well hidden here. Too many earthiness and roastiness here with dirty accents in the end. All in all good and creamy brew with nice whiskey barrel notes.

On draught. Pours black, with a moderate brown head that is dense and persists. Nose is dark malt and cocoa. Taste follows, with a creamy mouth feel and a long finish. Very good example of the style.

P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, slightly boozy finish. O- Pretty good but a tad boozy. Loads of chocolate and mocha throughout.
