COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black as night and every bit Imperial, this RIS was originally launched to tremendous accolades. Aged in Whiskey barrels, this barrel aged version meshes the rich chocolates and the coffee-like aromatics with the sweet whiskey nose and drying character of the oak. Slightly behind on the palate are the hops, held in restraint by the wonderfully full mouth-feel and broad flavors brought on by the perfect blend of so many malted barley varieties. Ready to enjoy now and perfect for extended cellaring.

A rich and flavorful RIS, the barrel attributes don’t overwhelm the stout but compliment it, as it should. Plenty of toasted malts with coffee, touches of chocolate and licorice. The barrel gives it vanilla and a touch of drying woodiness. Overall it’s very nice.

Idiosynkrasie (7535) - Bielefeld, GERMANY - JAN 1, 2017
750ml bottle. Jet black colour with average to huge, frothy to creamy, mostly lasting, well lacing, tan head. Whiskey aroma, notes of leather, oak, vanilla, chocolately dark malty background. Taste is slightly sweet, chocolately dark malty, hints of treacle, integrated, mild, slightly dry whiskey notes of oak, vanilla, leather; relatively light body, dangerously drinkable, in no way tacky palate. Not overly complex, rather focussed, harmonious and balanced.

12,000 beers and no end in sight. Sample from 2012 and 2011 bottles at the "Black Friday 02" tasting on 11/25/2016. Black pour with a medium foamy khaki head that diminishes steadily to a film. Patchy lacing on the glass. Aroma of malt, oak and dark chocolate. Full-bodied with flavors of charred malt, oaky bourbon and bittersweet chocolate. The finish is oaky with a bourbon and malt aftertaste. Good beer all around.

pitch black color. Big vanilla bean, dark chocolate molasses, oak and bourbon in the nose. Full on. Tons of dark chocolate, treacles, bourbon, oak, slightly sour mouth. So well integrated and put together. Fantastic lingering dark chocolate oak and bourbon finish.

Pours an opaque dark brown color with khaki colored head. Whiskey, oak, chocolate, vanilla, and coffee on the nose; follows onto the palate. Full bodied and thick. Finishes with whiskey and plenty of chocolate notes.

jbruner (4745) - Marietta, Georgia, USA - SEP 27, 2016
Pours a deep brownish black from the bomber with thin ring of tan brown head that leaves light lace. Aroma of woody tannins, dark chocolate, deep roast, and a hint of soy. Taste follows, drop the soy and add some sweet chocolate and vanilla, earthy middle. Booze is well hidden, thick and viscous, solid beer.

dinkle50 (1477) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - AUG 17, 2016
Black pour with a tan colored, single finger head. Lace present. Aroma is full of oak and whiskey, along with some vanilla, leather and tobacco. On the lighter side in terms of body. Taste has some chocolate notes, whiskey and bitter dark malts. Dry finish. This is good, but the mouth is awfully thin. It’s got it all except for the body.

nearbeer (5422) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - AUG 10, 2016
Half growler. Opaque brown-black with a ring and smattering of bubbles. Nose is caramel, char, milk chocolate and hints of soy and tobacco. Flavors of milk chocolate, barrel, whiskey and caramel. Medium body is a bit thin and hot with booze, but has a drinkable balance and a smooth, medium carbonation.

Patrickctenchi (6591) - Cox’s Knob, columbus, Indiana, USA - JUL 26, 2016
Bottle: Pours black with a small, dark tan head. Whiskey, wood, chocolate aroma. Ashy bitter....dark chocolate, coffee ground flavour. Great balanced alcohol warmth...drinks very smoothly....huge fudge notes as it warms.

SPDickerman (1239) - Texas, USA - JUL 17, 2016
Pours pitch black with a small tan head. Smells strongly of chocolate and some dark fruit notes. Taste is sweet, chocolate, and hints of fruit. Full-bodied with a smooth texture and soft mouth-carbonation, Nebraska Black Betty finishes with a subtle booziness.
