COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black as night and every bit Imperial, this RIS was originally launched to tremendous accolades. Aged in Whiskey barrels, this barrel aged version meshes the rich chocolates and the coffee-like aromatics with the sweet whiskey nose and drying character of the oak. Slightly behind on the palate are the hops, held in restraint by the wonderfully full mouth-feel and broad flavors brought on by the perfect blend of so many malted barley varieties. Ready to enjoy now and perfect for extended cellaring.

Sampled at the 7th Annual Parkville Microbrew Festival on April 24th, 2010. I’ve had this lots of times. As black as Angela’s hair. Remarkable dark brown head with the consistency of concrete. I always smell and taste coconuts from this beer. It might just be Tyson’s masterpiece thus far in his young career. I look forward to all the aged tastings in the Barrage.

I’ve been saving this for a special occasion - and since now U.S. women can serve in combat roles, I think that’s worth a toast! So, on to this here now brewski. Strong roast malt aroma has an oaky and whisky overtone, obviously from the barrel aging; it has notes of chocolate and caramel as well. Comes out of the bottle a rich sable just a whisker above jet black with a very thick and rather persistent tan head. Robust and rich flavor has firm tones of roast malt, chocolate, quality coffee, oaked whisky and licorice - may be whispers of toffee and horehound in there, too. Firm, smooth texture has some good fizz and leaves a smoky texture with a strong but not vicious whisky bite. Whoa Black Betty, bam-a-lam...

Pours pitch black with a small tan head. Smells strongly of chocolate and some dark fruit notes. Taste is sweet, chocolate, and hints of fruit. Full-bodied with a smooth texture and soft mouth-carbonation, Nebraska Black Betty finishes with a subtle booziness.

beautifully dark, with a little brown head. The aroma is rich with barrel and chocolate. The taste, is surprise equally malty and hoppy. I shared this with a few friends and we all marveled at the hop character that we got out of this. Lighter mouth-feel than i expected in a RIS, but a remarkably interesting beer.

750 mL bottle from Total Wine (Triangle) in Raleigh. Pours dark brown, nearly black, with a creamy tan head. Aroma of vanilla, licorice, roasted coffee, coconut, and hints of dark fruit. Chocolate, vanilla, and dark fruit are detected first on the tongue with dark espresso nearly dominating the finish. Creamy mouthfeel, medium heat. A wonderful imperial stout, although a bit pricey.

Poured from a bottle into a tulip glass. Pours a pitch black color with a light tan head that leaves great lacing. Has a great roasted malt aroma with chocolate and fruity undertones with coffee mixed in as well. The bourbon/oak aroma is nice well balanced. Sweet initial taste of chocolate, coffee and fruit with a nice smooth bitter backend of bourbon and oak. The alcohol is smooth and barely noticeable. The Mouthfeel is heavy but not too much so.

Has an odd flavor that is light and fruity with a whiskey finish. Has a dark brown color and light brown head with a whiskey aroma. Very unique.
