22oz bottle - pours dark brown with thin tan head . Faint cocoa aroma , hints of cola and coffee . Taste brings bits of bourbon , licorice , vanilla , coffee and tobacco . Overall a good beer , though not worth the $ .

From the waxed on 650 ml. bottle. 2014 batch. Outer space blackness in the pour with a modest tan head that fades. The aroma is of roasted caramel and dark malts, coffee, and a little boozy backdrop. Full body and smooth. The booze brings itself forward a little more in the flavor which is why I knocked it down a touch. But it is 11%. Otherwise sweet, dark malts lead to a lingering bitter or slightly boozy finish. Still quite outstanding. bigtaster (979) - Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA - MAR 26, 2015
From a 650 into snifter. Pours black with just hints of light coming through with an amber tint to it, medium fine head with soapy spots spread through it. Nose is intense dark dried fruits, fig, raisin, dates, licorice, caramel, malted barley. Very smooth body, medium to high sweetness, low bitterness to start moving to a nice moderate bitter finish, a bit of booze at the back of the throat, full bodied. There is a bit of pine in the finish, with more dried fruits. Good, but just not hitting the right spots for me, doesn’t seem very cohesive. Maltser85 (358) - Fargo, North Dakota, USA - MAR 25, 2015
Pour is black with red hue, khaki head. Aroma is chocolate, coffee, booze, vious notes. Taste is big coffee, vinous notes, an interesting blend of tanins, vanilla and coconut from the bourbon barrels and whatever the retired union barrels bring. Full bodied, 11%, can’t tell. 22oz 2014 vintage bottle pours dark briwn black with a finger of light tan head. Nose is pretty nice with some dark charred fudgey roast, some dusty coffee, oaky vanilla cream, and soft fruity wine. Taste is medium bodied, pretty nice blend of flavors, subdued but with decent complexity of bitter chocolate cherry, coffee bean, wine, and vanilla. Finishes with a dash of fruity sweetness and bitter roasty dark cocoa dust. Nicely done.

[2/12/15] Draught at The Sycamore in San Francisco. Black with a tan head. Big coffee beans aroma with some roast and wood. Bitter roasty flavor with some sweetness, lots of coffee and vanilla. Quite full-bodied. blackflag321 (689) - Lansing, Michigan, USA - MAR 15, 2015
Shared bomber, snifter. Bourbon/coffee/chocolate characters were all subtlety displayed. Smooth, smooth, smooth. No booziness. Very nice, really like it. bearohs (14) - Lakeland, Florida, USA - MAR 13, 2015
Interesting brew.. deep lingering tones of tobacco and malt. Some front light coffee taste but no aroma. Very high abv but not in your face with it. Pretty good brew for sure. hman43 (1588) - Pinehurst, North Carolina, USA - MAR 7, 2015
It pours black with a brown head that produces a lot of lacing. It has coffee and roasted aromas with bourbon and alcohol with smokey notes. It flavor combination of bourbon and coffee is complex and pleasant. It has a smokey taste and a wee bit of chocolate. The bit a bitter tinge on the palate.
