1/25/2013. Pours black with a thin, brown head. Aroma is incredible; so much coffe, cappuccino, espresso, vanilla. Taste caught me slightly off-guard. Highly acidic, black coffee, burnt coffee beans, roast, bourbon. Medium carbonation. Aggressive, full-bodied mouth feel. This stout is incredibly aggressive; it stings a bit on the tongue. The barrel aging really helps to calm this beer down, if even just a bit. But I enjoyed this and could drink it often.

650ml, 2014 Vintage from a Chicago trade, merci! - Had this cellar a few years, having read the reviews. Generously sampled and then used in a vanilla ice float. - Thick Viennese Java and chocolate raisin berriness in aroma with a generous dollop of aged vanilla surfing on a spiky bourbon abv wave. Even if the wine barrel and time have flattened out the sugary and abv edges a bit, this is still a heavy sipper, thick and dense with that typical paratactical complexity of (West Coast?) US ImpStouts: treacly-thick layers of chocolate, coffee bean and molasses have been slathered on top of each other in the hope that more will become more - all the while the yeast is dead and has stopped unifying all added sugars into true ex-pluribus-unum goodness. - The barrels do their best to keep all the sweetness contained (some oak, vanilla, spirit wafts), but its diabetically decadent pancake syrup ground layer still screams for accompaniment. - A treat to be shared and enjoyed over several sitting for sure. ffaoe (792) - Moorestown, New Jersey, USA - APR 19, 2017

From a 22 oz bottle into a St Bernardus chalice. Pours black with brown head and lace. Aroma of dark chocolate, roasted malts. Medium carbonation and significant mouthfeel. Flavors of dark roasted malts, cark chocolate, coffee, bourbon, molassas, slight tobacco. Overall big, bold, rich and flavoful.

Aroma - sweet chocolate, sweet malt, cherry, big alcohol, roast, coffee, and spice.
Appearance - the body is black, the head is beige and around 2". Head fades slowly. Alcohol cloying, with suds wash.
Taste - sweet with a mix of bourbon, roast, chocolate, molasses, caramelized sugars, tobacco, and spice.

Bottle from World Market in Redwood City, CA. Aroma is sweet dark malts and dark fruits with vanilla, marshmallows. Taste is sweet and boozy...not getting much of the coffee...maybe some dark chocolate. Has more of vanilla taste to me. Overall too sweet and unbalanced.
