Affiliated with the Nectar Ales experience through shared origins at Humboldt Brewing Company, Hemp Ale is a one-of-a-kind brew that boasts an incredibly rich profile and unique herb-accented flavor that is attributable to the incorporation of hemp seeds into the brewing process. A wonderful brown ale full of complexity Hemp Ale is great with food or by itself. American hops create a perfect balance to the darker malts used in this brew. This brown ale is the Gold Medal winner for first place in its category at both the 1999 and 2000 California State Fair Craft Brewing Competitions.

Bottle shared by Ryan and Felicia...thanks! Pours an amber color. Aroma has tons of caramel malt, with some vegetal and spice notes and light hops. Flavor is malty and very light on the hops. I got high when I drank this...yeah not really. Peace dudes and dudettes.

Sampled from a 12-oz bottle during Dark Lord Day 09 at table 2. Pours a semi-clear copper amber colored brew with a thin off-white head that quickly dissipates to a thin white ring and minimal lacing. Aroma of caramel malt, some citrus and flowery hops, a touch of roasted nuts and dry herbal spice. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonation, flavors of roasted caramel malt, dry herbs, some dry bitter hops and a touch of bubblegum. Finish is semi-dry with a dry hop bitterness that slowly disappears.

Bottle from PP> Pours a deep woody copper brown- clear with a thin head. Aroma is herbal grassy, hemp-rope, leather with a toasty and light herbal caramel note. Crystal malt flavor with herbs, grass, ropes, and leather with some nuttiness and lemon in the finish. Not crazy about this, but it is easily drinkable.

Bottle: Brownish copper with a wispy tan head. Tons of crystal sweetness in the aroma with a hint of grassy hops. Very thin texture. Fresh crystal malt flavor- both husky and mildly sweet. The hop presence is very subtle and earthy (Chinook?) Simple and thin overall, but no big off flavors.

Bottle shared by Peter. Crystal, toasty aroma, very uncomplex, drab, oily, malts. Boring, brown ale flavor, I dont even see where the hemp comes from here. There are some interesting perfume notes that come out in the finish that almost save this beer but not quite. If you want to make a pot beer make a nice dank IPA, not some random brown ale.

From the bottle dark copper body, good clarity, smooth off-white head. Caramel malts throughout. Toasty and nutty malt depth. Body is thin and a bit watery, expecting a bit more heft from the crystal malts. Finish balanced out by the hops. Simple all around, but good and sessionable.

3/1/09 From the bottle. Aroma is light caramel and roast with no hops, similar to an english brown. Appearance is clear copper brown with a well-maintained off-white head. Flavor is all malt with sweet-sour slightly roast malt dominating an only very light herbal note. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a moderate carb texture. Overall, quite easy drinking and pretty yummy, a good beer for a wide variety of food because of its light flavors.
