Affiliated with the Nectar Ales experience through shared origins at Humboldt Brewing Company, Hemp Ale is a one-of-a-kind brew that boasts an incredibly rich profile and unique herb-accented flavor that is attributable to the incorporation of hemp seeds into the brewing process. A wonderful brown ale full of complexity Hemp Ale is great with food or by itself. American hops create a perfect balance to the darker malts used in this brew. This brown ale is the Gold Medal winner for first place in its category at both the 1999 and 2000 California State Fair Craft Brewing Competitions.

From a bottle. Pours clear ruby brown with a bubbly beige head. Tastes like bitter raisin, dry toast, molasses, also grassy and earthy. Light/medium body and low carbonation. Smells nutty, earthy, like dry toast and light alcohol.

bubbleflubber (2207) - Swannanoa, North Carolina, USA - JUL 20, 2014
Pours a deep mahogany with a nice off-white head that leaves soapy lacing. The nose is of barnyard silage and lightly sweet caramel. Caramel and sourdough flavors finish with a medium–light grain. The mouthfeel is round with a light body and soft carbonation. Very decent session brown ale here. All of the complexity is provided in an easy quaff. Delicious.

A nice mahogany color with a thick head. Aroma is caramel and coffee. taste is a sharp soy sauce mixed in beer flavor with a bitter salty after taste. Basically its Guiness stout with a different label. I will finish the glass but not a fan.

Appearance was clear reddish brown with diminishing creamy tan tiny head,no lacing. Aromas are caramel, chocolate, hints of coffee and sugars. Taste are toffee, brown sugar, touches of coffee and vanilla. Palate was soft creamy CO2 with light body, then average length simple semi-sweet lightly dry finish. A average easy drinking brown.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a medium, well retained, light beige head, over a clear brown (SRM 25) body......nose is light with cocoa, chocolate, toffee/caramel, hints of coffee, no esters, minimal hops........taste is light cocoa, chocolate, hints of toffee/caramel, slight roasted coffee, minimal esters, light herbal hop bitterness to finish, dry throughout......mouth feel, light of medium body, no astringency, soft carbonation. This is a nice rendition of a Brown Ale, with pleasant complexity in both aroma and flavor. The malts are dominant in both aroma and flavor, which is entirely appropriate for Northern English Brown.
