Poured from the 12 oz. Bottle. Color is typical for a brown ale, clear with a very thin head. Aroma is malty, slightly roasted. Flavour also has a roasted, chocolate character. Overall pretty decent brown.NJBeerman013 (1054) - Hamilton Twp., New Jersey, USA - DEC 31, 2012

On tap @ Petes in Sacramento. Served in a mug. The aroma is suprisingly hoppy. Colour is a nice Brown, clear with a red hue. Flavour is very pleasant. Nice roasty malty flavours that are very smooth. Finishes moderately dry. Mouth feel is full bodied with light Carbonation. Overall this is a great Brown that is just a little different than most in a good way!
Draft. Pours a chestnut brown color with minimal head. The aroma is nutty with a slight herbal note. Smooth and rich malty flavor with a helbal spicyness in the back. mkel07 (5995) - Brisbane, AUSTRALIA - DEC 20, 2014

An enjoyable ale. Nice hop and malt balance, a little caramel sweetness in the finish. Hairofthedog (419) - San Diego, California, USA - DEC 12, 2004
This beer poured a golden yellow color w/ good head and slight lacing. Malty and crisp w/ citrusy notes on the nose, and the same in the mouth. Good effervescence, and a light body complemented this beer. I like it.

Beautiful full red with an almond head. Aroma of rich malt, almost like a robust honey. Amazing heavy malt nose. Reminds me of San Diego Pale Ales! Flavor is of a herbal, grassy hop. Tastes like a toasted crystal malt wort, without the sweetness. (Just a handful of grain) It is drier than I expected. The label alone is of course reason to try this one. Distinctive crystal grains throughout this one. Bradrcr (806) - Renton, Washington, USA - MAR 2, 2009
3/1/09 From the bottle. Aroma is light caramel and roast with no hops, similar to an english brown. Appearance is clear copper brown with a well-maintained off-white head. Flavor is all malt with sweet-sour slightly roast malt dominating an only very light herbal note. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with a moderate carb texture. Overall, quite easy drinking and pretty yummy, a good beer for a wide variety of food because of its light flavors. DYCSoccer17 (3698) - Woodland, California, USA - JUN 7, 2010
4 ounce sample tasted at the Midtown Sacramento location. Rating is about a month old. Aroma is a bit metallic with some piney hop aromas present, too. There are some sweet hints present as well. I really like the hop aroma in this beer. Transparent amber body with a fair off-white head present. Nice chewy, nutty, crunchy maltiness is present. Finishes with just the right amount of dryness and a nice grassy, lightly spiced hop finish. A really solid brown ale.jsmerig (1590) - Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 12, 2012

12 ounce bottle shared by grant. Sweet, lightly fruity, light caramel aromas with perhaps a little spiciness present. Not much in the way of hops are present. Despite this, it is pretty aromatic. Attractive ruddy-amber transparent body with a small manilla head and nice lacing present. Roasty, nutty, husky, malty start. Some mild metallic notes come through. FInishes lightly sweet with some mild, metallic, spicy hops. Not too bad. Exceeds expectations.
Pours a deep dark ruby brown with a tan head. Taste is syrup drenched and toasted chocolate. Well balanced with a good palette. Not cloyingly sweet up front. Not too dark or sour towards the end. Very clean at the finish with almost no dark aftertaste.

ours a dark amber with about a finger of tan, rich, slowly dissipating head. Raisin notes in the nose. Soft mouthfeel with a sweet aftertaste. Some dark fruit and brown sugar is prominent. Actually better than I expected it to be.
