COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Affiliated with the Nectar Ales experience through shared origins at Humboldt Brewing Company, Hemp Ale is a one-of-a-kind brew that boasts an incredibly rich profile and unique herb-accented flavor that is attributable to the incorporation of hemp seeds into the brewing process. A wonderful brown ale full of complexity Hemp Ale is great with food or by itself. American hops create a perfect balance to the darker malts used in this brew. This brown ale is the Gold Medal winner for first place in its category at both the 1999 and 2000 California State Fair Craft Brewing Competitions.

My first hemp beer and may very well not have another (of course this isn’t true). Nice aroma but did not enjoy the herb aftertaste.

Had from bottle - April 28, 2003
Pours a dark reddish brown with a slight head that lingers for a while. Aroma is quite malty with a bit o' hops. Taste is initially strong, but weakens quickly - almost zero aftertaste. Flavor is quite underwhelming without any stand-out tastes. An interesting gimmick, but nothing more.

This had a very slight tomato/salsa taste that turned me off at first, but the beer grows on you. Unfortunately, I didn't end up getting high off this beer.

UPDATED: APR 16, 2012 Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, light brown, mostly lasting. Body is dark brown. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted bread/nuts), with light notes of pepper, poppy seeds, cardboard. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter. Light to medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Thin, watery, and bland for its size. Not a very enticing nose either...some resemblance to oxidation despite these bottles having just shown up in local stores. Not terrible, but a drain pour for me.

Tap. Dark brown ruby color, thin whitish head, little lacing on my glass. Aroma is gently malty, not much complexity to it. Flavor has a dark malty flavor, a little darker than Newcastle, a twang of bitterness to it, kind of spicy in the finish. Body is average for a beer like this. A run of the mill beer, not much too good nor too bad to say about it.

a decent brown ale, i don’t know what the hemp is all about but this is well balanced, and interesting. i think the hemp is just a gimmick to get hippies to buy this.

On tap. Reddish brown, transparant color with a nice beige head. Some caramelized malty aromas with a light, grassy hops touch. Mouthfeel is syrupy, but not in a creamy or full kind of way. Flavor of toast and cherry jelly.

On tap. The flavor was really thin, it didn’t match the dark color at all. Aroma was barely there. Probably wouldnt drink again.

Bottle. [Courtesy of Papsoe, yet another great tasting @ Henrik´s] Small beige fizzy head that mostly diminished. Clear brown color. Aroma of caramel, roasted malt, light floral notes. Medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Moderated sweet flavor with light bitterness. Sweet roasted matly finish with an herbal twist at the very end. 18-09-2007
