rayaron (2074) - Kfar Saba, ISRAEL - DEC 23, 2014
Bottle sample. Cloudy deep brown with small beige head. Yeasty aroma, bready, spicy, some fruitiness, hint of cherry, a bit metallic. Sweet aroma, yeasty and spicy, date honey, some roasted malt, fruity, hints of cherry, a bit woody, sweet-sour finish. Moderate carbonation, medium to full-bodied.

2014 version (8%) Bottle, 330ml. Pours dark opaque brown, slightly hazy, with dense creamy light beige head, slightly lacing but short lasting. Aroma of very sweet malt, spice, rose petals, slight sourness, floral, fruit, canned corn. Very pleasing smell, quite unique. Mouth feel is creamy with full body and medium carbonation. Taste is very sweet. Flavors of sweet caramel, honey, spice, vanilla, liquor, some fruity hops, slight phenol, chocolate, wood, slight roastness, more spice, faint licorice. Very nice with unique and very please flavors, but slightly too sweet, yet not sticky or cloing. Very good reinterpretation of the style.

HoopsandHops (62) - ISRAEL - JAN 23, 2014
UPDATED: JAN 24, 2014 Bottle in Jerusalem. Exp date: 12/2014. Pours a very dark tootsie-roll brown with no head. Some creamy yeast at base of bottle. Carbonation in the glass is active. Strong yeasty aroma of wood and alcohol, cigar flesh, with some moist leaves on the finish. Smells like the kind of beer you wanna drink cuddled under a blanket in front of the fireplace. Taste is sweeter, maltier, than the aroma suggests, though not a whole lot: spicy toffee and cinnamon gum, mildly bitter finish of wet leaves and vanilla. Palate is rich -- full body, creamy texture, soft carbonation, lingering aftertaste. Lacing is so-so. Bottom line: a curious cross between your classic Belgian ale and what almost tastes like a barrel-aged porter results in a solid, complex, robust brew that’s enjoyable from start to finish.
