COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
First brewed in Tacuba, Mexico in 1925, Modelo Negra, formerly Negra Modelo, is a medium-bodied lager with slow-roasted caramel malts brewed for a rich, smooth taste. Brewed longer to enhance its flavors, Modelo Negra redefines "Dark Beer" because it is exceptionally drinkable and remarkably smooth. This Munich Dunkel-style Lager is brewed with galena and super galena hops as well as caramel malt, black malt and two and six row malt barley. These ingredients are meticulously brewed together to give Modelo Negra that bright, rich, amber hue and that iconic, medium-bodied flavor.

FlacoAlto (4234) - Tucson, Arizona, USA - AUG 25, 2005
Pours a brilliantly clear ruby color when held up to the light. It is topped by a frothy, though quickly disappearing tan colored head. The aroma is slightly malty with a hint of caramel in the finish as well as a light herbal character & fruitiness (strawberries) that seem to be mostly hop derived. As expected the aroma is fairly muted & subtle. The beer is lightly sweet with apparent notes of sweet cherry candy, and light caramel. The beer has a light herbal character and a certain light astringent bitterness in the finish. This beer is fairly simple and subtle, but that is pretty characteristic of this style of beer. This beer really has a soft spot for me, and I quite enjoy being able to order this beer at Mexican restaurants, where it is usually the only beer with flavor.

TINOZACCA (146) - Cleveland, Ohio, USA - AUG 25, 2005
This beer has a good dark color. It has a thicker body with a more full flavor than I expected. The head is larger, and sticks around longer than I expected from a mexican brew. I like the flavor alot. It has malt, hops, and is slightly sweet.

Best Mexican beer I have tasted. It is smooth and not bitter at all. Good with lime as well.

two words for this, carbonation and malt. Very carbonated, malty finished, refreshing considering the ABV, la la

Better flavor than Especial, nice amber color, good aroma and flavor. Not good with lime and salt.

The best thing to come out of Mexico besides cheap burritos at 2am. Dark, and sweet, great carmel flavor. Perfect thing to wash down those tacos.

This is a sweet, malty smelling and tasting beer. Has a sort of bitter finish to it. Decent dark beer coming out of Mexico.

As far as datk beer goes this beer is mediocre at best. Aroma is weak with a bit of caramel. Finish sort of bitter. I prefer the Modelo Espcial which is often hard to find.

Gazza (727) - Worcester, Worcestershire, ENGLAND - AUG 11, 2005
Bottle from Evertons, Worcester. Vienna lager my arse!!!! This is just a crappy lager with E150 caramel in it - the label even admits that!!! No flavours of dark malt, just a cardboardy, bland fluid with no redeeming features whatsoever. Until there’s none left and you don’t have to drink any more of the junk. Yeuch.
