First brewed in Tacuba, Mexico in 1925, Modelo Negra, formerly Negra Modelo, is a medium-bodied lager with slow-roasted caramel malts brewed for a rich, smooth taste. Brewed longer to enhance its flavors, Modelo Negra redefines "Dark Beer" because it is exceptionally drinkable and remarkably smooth. This Munich Dunkel-style Lager is brewed with galena and super galena hops as well as caramel malt, black malt and two and six row malt barley. These ingredients are meticulously brewed together to give Modelo Negra that bright, rich, amber hue and that iconic, medium-bodied flavor.

Pours a brown color. About two fingers lightly tan head. Pretty good retention, lacing only when I swish.<P>Aroma is sweet and bready, spicy. Light roasted malts.

Taste is lightly sweet. Slight spice, light roasted malt. Caramel, touch of toffee.

Mouthfeel is light and watery. Very smooth. Supremely drinkable.

Overall, this is really good. It's not super flavorful, and it's watery. But all around it's great, and I was highly surprised. I absolutely recommend it and would buy it again.

My favorite in Mexico, much richer in taste than the pale Lagers available around. And it mixes well with tomato, chilly, spices and salt, which is called Michelada, and which I loved the most.

UPDATED: AUG 24, 2017 good amber beer to have more than one.. dark lager taste. with good carbonation. good with and squeeze of lime and pinch of salt on a hot day. cool bottle design as always

The hops flavor is a little stronger than I prefer, but I do like it. It is more expensive than other amber beers whose taste I like better, so I doubt I will buy this again.

UPDATED: AUG 13, 2017 Dark brown, mostly clear, finger of white head. Nose is corn, with bits of roasted malt, some yeast, hint of chocolate. Light body, high carbonation, sweet. A bit of the cheap adjunct in the finish with unpleasant bitterness, if that wasn't there this would be a good beer.

Nothing special here, it's just a basic dark lager style beer. It used to be more intriguing before all the breweries popped up, now it's plain ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours brown from the bottle with a stable off white head. Frothy. Very little aroma apart from light roasted notes, but was served extremely cold. Taste is caramel, a sweetness with mild sassafras inflections. Finish is short and unclean.

Rhofpheh (26) - SWEDEN - JUL 31, 2017
It has a nice dark amber colour to it and a lovely bready aroma, but the slightly sour and bitter taste is a little sub-par.
