   AROMA 7/10   APPEARANCE 3/5   TASTE 7/10   PALATE 3/5   OVERALL 14/20
Glouglouburp (6103) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - FEB 10, 2013
In short: A sweet and grapefruity/floral golden IPA. Decent bits even if a bit too sweet and hops lacking vivacity.
How: Bottle 22oz, consumed soon after purchase from a New-Hampshire beer store.
The look: Clear dark golden body topped by a large off-white head with good retention.
In long: The hoppy nose of low-medium intensity has grapefruits, some pine-tree and some phenols. The hop aroma lets some of the malt sweetness through. Taste is sweet bready malts, a medium toasted sensation and a sweetness that is both caramel and refined white sugars. In mouth the hops taste surprisingly as floral as grapefruity. Bitterness is sharp, of medium intensity and is accompanied by a bit of grapefruity/lemony acidity. Most people would consider this well balanced but personally I would have preferred it less sweet. Currently listed on ratebeer as an APA probably East Coast Pale, but really a malt-heavy sweet 7.4% APA? This was clean and easy to drink, a decent effort even if not what Im looking for in this type of beer. Called East Coast Pale because it is made on the east coast, apparently, I live in Montreal and I cant even find the east coast because my ability to point to all seven cardinal points is considered as not very good.

22 oz. bottle from On the Vine. English pint shows a murky amber color with great retention and fluffy lacing sticky all the way down the side. Average carbonation. Big grapefruit nose with bready malt. Taste is nicely balanced with the sweet bread malt and fruity / herbal hops. A bit of a grainy flavor. The hops linger on your palate well after the sip. Finish is mostly a dry texture, yet the hops make me salivate. This is a finely made APA.

Very nice color and nice head when poured. Easy to drink and we enjoyed tonite with spicy chicken wings and tacos. A very smooth ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle shared by Jcwattsrugger. Pours light copper amber with off white head. Nose of pineapple, caramel malts, apple core and pine. Taste of same but muted with lots of dry grains and some off notes. Light to medium body. Finishes dry.

22 oz bottle from The Beer Store. Pours a hazy amber/orange with a one finger off white head. A bit of weak lacing. Bready, caramel aroma hints at the sweet caramel base to come in the flavor. Also, some floral hop flavors as well, but the malt is dominate. Full, smooth palate with low carbonation. Quite nice, will have to revisit this one.

Pours a deep reddish copper color with a healthy white head that shows moderate retention and lace. Smells of bready, toffee and caramel malts with just enough floral and earthy hoppiness to keep this fairly balanced. Taste is kind of sweet and a bit heavy on the caramel. Lightly fruity flavor with just a hint of chocolate and enough floral earthy hops to almost counter the sweetness. Finishes fairly dry with a lingering earthy hop bite. Medium body and level of carbonation with a sweet slick almost syrupy mouthfeel. Nice pale ale, but a little heavy and sweet for the style although I would drink this again.
