Bottle, pours a clear dark amber with a small off-white / beige head. Aroma of toasted nuts, caramel, vegetal notes, biscuity malts - very German smell. Flavour of bananas, clove, toasted nuts, toffee and some vegetal notes. Thin palate with not much complexity. Not too bad though. bhensonb (15609) - Woodland, California, USA - DEC 9, 2011
Swingtop from Trader Joes in Davis, CA. Opens with a big pop. Pours copper with a 3 finger foamy beige head. Aroma of roast malt and noble hop. Med body. Flavor is a bit nutty, with roast malt and some grassy hop. It’s just a bit sweet, but there seems to be enough hop to cut that to a minimum. It drinks really well. Bottle. Poured clear dark copper with a moderate to large light brown head that last with good lacing. Good caramel toasted malt aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture and soft carbonation. Good well balanced dark sweet malt flavor with a moderate smooth sweet finish of moderate duration. Good doppelbock. Drake (14059) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 31, 2012
Half liter swingtop from Trader Joe’s Glen Allen, VA. Pours a clear amber color with a large fizzy off-white head. Decent
head retention. Aroma of floral notes, stone fruits, citrus and caramel. The taste is caramel malts, candied fruits and
very faint hops. Medium bodied, a little one note and too sweet. slowrunner77 (12581) - Reno, Nevada, USA - SEP 26, 2014
"of the red and doppelbock, i was expecting this to be better, but it’s a pretty weak representation of the style. less liquid bread...more overripe sweet, especially the aftertaste. if not for that it would an above avg taste, but the aftershock ruins it a bit. everything else is average. it’s not BAD but it’s a 1 dimensional doppelbock light. sucks that it’s bring down my scores for a style i REALLY like when done well."

Swing-top bottle. Rich amber pour with an off-white head. Smells and tastes a bit like a malt liquor, just with more body. Vegetal, some plastic, dusty caramel malts, almost artificially sweet. Another bad one from this brewer. bb (9697) - Alamo, California, USA - DEC 27, 2011
Bottle. Rich amber beer with a dark cream colored head. Mineral and malt aroma. Mineral and malt flavor with light caramel. Medium bodied. Mineral and malt lingers with light caramel and light spice. Ibrew2or3 (8808) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - JAN 29, 2013
Cool 50cl swing top bottle pours a deep ruby red amber-ish sort of color with a thin tan head of foam. The aroma offers up raisin, spiced red apple wedges and some hazel nut like nuttiness. The taste is similar as it puts out a mix of raisins, cherries and spiced red apples as well as a bit of roasted malts and nuttiness. Interesting estery and also nearly astringent maltiness at times. Bottled. Poured medium orange with a tall whitish head. The aroma picked up sweet caramel and dark fruity notes with black pepper and detergenty accents.. more of the latter as it warmed up. The flavor found sweet caramel, nutty notes, and dark fruit at the core with tangy fruit skins and clovey/white peppery yeast around.. tasty, sweet finish. Medium-bodied with an ok flow through the palate.. decent drinker. mansquito (6789) - Nueva York, New York, USA - APR 9, 2012
Trader Joe’s, DC 500ml ($3.50): Pours a not very dark colour at all with a crappy looking head. Aroma is malty. Taste is bland, but in honesty, this was better than I expected that it would be. Fortunately, this was not too sweet. Pretty mellow. But, bland and contrived. The bottle might be the most positive thing about this brew.
