Cask; Regular.
The addition of coriander to the Old Growler wort completes the original 1750s recipe for this distinctive dark beer. The powerful spiciness only adds to this porter's appeal.

Cask at Jerusalem Tavern. Darkest brown in color with a small tan head. Lots of coriander on the aroma, coffee and anise backing it up. Flavor is slightly sweet, slightly bitter, roast and a bit of chocolate, loads of coriander. If you dont like coriander/bedbug flavor, you shouldnt have ordered this. And yes, bedbugs are known to smell like coriander. Sorry for ruining coriander for you forever. Medium feel, soft carbonation. Not bad considering what this is supposed to be.

Cask. Dark Brown in colour. Tasty roast malty porter. Chocolate, caramel and coffee notes. Spicy (coriander). Hoppy balance. Nice pint. (2008)

Handpull cask at the Three Horseshoes, Stapleford. Very dark brown with lilting shades of purple. A ring of khaki head. Strong herbal note with some coriander and cress. Lovely taste: milky and chocolately with a gorgeous sweet liquorice note. The coriander adds a bit of balance to what may have otherwise been an overly sweet taste. Old Growler is one of my favourite cask porters, and the herbal note adds an unexpected complexity to it.

Very dark with no head. Minerally and malt aroma complemented with coriander, but the flavor is much stronger than the aroma. Rich and slightly burnt, very spicy. Smooth bodied and not too heavy. Quite pleasing.

Pours dark brown, but still transluscent. Ring of tan head. First aroma to hit is the coriander, followed by malt. Peppery, with a lot of carbonic acid. Medium body. Finish is a bit astringent.

Cask at the Cricketers (JDW), Ipswich. Pours very dark brown with a maroon tint and a lasting off white head. Aroma of black current, spice, and chocolate. Medium sweetness, light bitterness, touch of sour. Full bodied, slick texture, average carbonation. Finish is dry and slightly sharp. Not convinced it was served at its absolute prime, but still very drinkable.

From barrel at Sir John Gervase Warren Robin Hood beer festival. Aroma malty, herbal, with caramel notes. Pours dark brown lace top. The taste bespeaks the Growler origin and the coriander lengthens and complicates the finish with spice.

Gravity at Newtfest 2016. Mahogany with a rim of cream suds. Fruity aroma with black fruits and herbs. The taste is liquorice, aniseed, dandilion and burdock. Herbal. A little spicy. Interesting and good.

Bottle at home. Mailorder from Beerhawk. 10/06/16. Deep and dark but let down by the lack of any head. The coriander comes through in the sweet aroma - reminds me of something else but annoyingly I cannot think what, some sort of fruit drink/mulled wine perhaps.. A sweet beer with a bitter kick. Unoffensive palate. A nice beer. Not sure whether Id want to drink multiple pints.
