Near black body with gray-brown head. Aroma is coffee, moderately sweet. Taste is sugared coffee, with cream even -- not as oversweetened as the Black Abbot (thank goodness), but still too sweet for my taste.

Deep dark brown, almost opague. Roasted malt and anis in the aroma. Pours a huge head. Soft malty sweet flavor with anis and mint. Roasted malt. Looks a bit like a Belgian sweet stout, but I like this beer better.

pours a very dark brown colour with an elusive foam; aroma of caramel with strange vegetal notes; sweet and light-bodied with a solid carbonation; no bitterness and a short and quite watery caramelish aftertaste

Almost completely black, but lets in a ruby-red flicker of light. Dense creamy head. Aroma is peppery, roasted and with some caramel. Low to medium carbonated. Taste is filled with caramel and roasted tones. Some smoke is in there as well, and so is a touch of final bitterness.

Dark brown colour with small light tan head. Sweet buttery (diacetyl) aroma with some bread and caramel. Sweetish caramel, milk coffee, toasted malt, mild rye and toffee in flavour. Tiny hints of hops. Coffee in aftertaste. Moderate carbonation.

Bottled @ Fynske Øldage: Reddish brown coloured. Light brown head. Is a little bland. Light roasty and sweet. Has some vague caramel notes. Flavour of grass, malt, light roast and light cocoa. Is sweet in the end. Medium bodied.

UPDATED: DEC 28, 2013 Bottle. Clear dark brown pour. Nice aroma of nut and maybe some very mild fig. Flat mouthfeel. Taste is dull - somewhat nutty. A disappointing finish after an optimistic nose.

Deep dark brown colour with a nice foamy head. Aroma of smoked malt and some chocolate. Flavour of well roasted malts, chocolate, nice smokiness and caramel. Roasty bitter finish. A tasty schwarzbier brewed according to an old monk recipe.

Not as much of a mouthfull as it’s name unfortunately. Dark black body with a nice beige head. Bit of roasty smokiness, in a light-meidum body. Not bad per se but it was not pushing the right buttons for me today.
