Pours with a one-finger tan head that fades to nothing leaving no lace. Almost black. Medium carbonation and medium bodied. Nose is roasted coffee. Starts like a mild porter with some roasted coffee at the finish. $3.04 for a 500ml bottle from Oliver’s Beverages Albany, NY. jimmack (1223) - Nutley, New Jersey, USA - OCT 12, 2005
Bottle. Dark brown, almost black in color with a medium sized tan head. Aroma of fresh baked black bread, roasted malts and caramel. Mild roasted malt flavor with lots of yeast and a somewhat bitter finish. Very aggressive carbonation. Very smooth and drinkable beer. JPDIPSO (6223) - Wauwatosa, USA - AUG 14, 2002
Dark chestnut color with A tan thinnish head. Aroma straight out of a malt house - Musty, grainy, dusty malt. Fairly thin but thickens as it warms. For the aroma the beer is quite mild flavored. Almost an iced mild coffee with a touch of cream. Rather enjoyable change of pace. Shag (3001) - Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA - FEB 11, 2004
Aroma is chocolate, caramel and blackberries. Appearance is dark with a minimal head. Flavor is chocolate, dark fruit, and licorice. Aftertaste is sweet with a hint of sourness on your tounge. This is a nice one and possibly the longest beer name I've had the pleasure to rate. Lubiere (13911) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - MAY 9, 2004
Black beeer with a nice reddish hue, with a light collapsing moka head. Chocolate vinous aroma with a touch of fresh air. Pleasant caramle malts, some nice little hops, some vanilla. Bodied is lighter than expected but the beer is thoroughly enjoyable. Sweetness is increased by camembert, which alos refreshes the beer even more. A big thanks to Maibockaddict, who recommend a slow sipping session, which i am doing right now, after a day of biking!!! Haaaaa.

clear deep brown, off white head. roasted malt and tootsie roll cohoclate aroma with a bit of butterscotch. roasty, chocolatey and smoky flavour. smooth mouthfeel. very well done. Mads Langtved (2243) - Copenhagen K, DENMARK - JUL 30, 2005
Black, no significant head. Very very malty and sweet. Toffee notes are dominent as well. Slighty smokey finish. A good Schwarzbier. shintriad (701) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - SEP 17, 2005
Why doesn’t this have a higher rating, I wonder? Beautifully dark red like Coca-Cola, a tall and lacy beige head that doesn’t last too long, and a faint nose of malt, iced coffee, pumpernickel and olive oil. The body is exceptionally smooth, a bit oily, a bit creamy, like goat’s milk hand soap. Then, that flavour of iced coffee, a whiff of chocolate and cola, some prune. Slightly bitter finish with zero astringency. A bit thin, perhaps flat, but it adds to the guzzlability factor. I enjoyed this beer greatly. drpimento (3639) - La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA - MAR 7, 2007
Pours with a light tan head, a bit of lace and very dark reddish brown. Super aromatic roasty, dark chocolate, toffee, malt, hint of raisin/date. Definite tartness in flavor, but very nice silky mout filling quaff. a few years ago I even had the sublime pleasure of drinking 2 and bathing in 2 with my gf. Heaven! rederic (3337) - montréal, Quebec, CANADA - MAR 23, 2005
Dark blackish hue, with an elusive foam, burnt toast, roasted malt, dark bitter chocolate, coffee, burnt grains aromas follow through a medium-bodied palate, with dark coffee, roasted coffee grains, hint of cacao saying hello!, within a discreet bitterness finish, coming from his roasted malt. only my nose had the chance to take a bath in this beer.
