This sounded like a compelling draft even with a number of very strong Gravity Head beers available. A fine Belgian ale was robust, flavorful, and well worth a full pint.
Aroma / Appearance - Fluid and rich, this is a very attractive looking beer with a deep ivory head. Licorice, candy, dry chocolate, and inviting hops blossom in the air along with a contribution of Belgian undertones.
Flavor / Palate - Anise, yeast, powered donuts, sweet bittersweet chocolate, and black Twizzlers fill the mouth with a very full body. A bitter finish of black coffee hangs in the throat as well. A solid tap was worth choosing over some of the other local high gravity offerings.
Nearly black with a small tan head.
Smoky, chocolate malt, coffee aroma.
Sweet, mild chocolate taste.
Very porter-like with a hint of Belgian-ness....
Very good. queenholly (3623) - South Whitley, Indiana, USA - FEB 19, 2012
Growler. Chocolate, coffee aroma. Black brown with a small tan head. Chocolate malt, spice, and a little acidity in the flavor. Medium body and slight carbonation. Nice. shrubber85 (11408) - Greenville, Indiana, USA - DEC 22, 2011
Tap. Wood/charcoal and light chocolate malt aroma. Dark black-brown color with moderate head. Slightly sweet chocolate malt flavor with a moderately bitter herbal hops finish. Smooth as silk. Very tasty.
