Excessive hopping rendered moot a modest plan to brew a seasonal winter warmer, and since the original batch was brewed on Election Day, 2002, Elector continued to make democracy pointless and redefine the Imperial Red category.

English & American malts; Cascade & Galena hops; London yeast. Dry-hopped. O.G. 1072

Tap. Pours clear reddish orange, small beige head, good residual and lacing. Aroma is piney hops, caramel. Flavor is medium sweet, full bitter, pine, floral and perfume hops, caramel malt. Medium body, some acidity. Lingering bitterness. Meh

Comes out of the bottle slightly hazy dark amber with a thick and fine-bubbled buff head. Aroma has malty and fruity components with a snip of hops. Flavor has strong malty and hoppy components with fruity and cloves hints. Mouthfeel has decent viscosity and fizz, and finishes mainly spicy wood. A good elector indeed.

Draft/growler from the brewery. Not sure what theyre going for here, but its good. A darker amber beer, almost brown, this has a sturdy palate. Nice hoppy flourish in there, but an almost brown ale, malty base. Good on a cool night. (#5880, 12/3/2014)

Bomber thanks to Ray. Nose is very piney, earthy, very pungent, strong hop aroma. some honey malt sweetness and caramel in the nose too. Taste is slightly thin, watery and flat initially. Seems like a watered down barleywine honestly. could benefit from more malt backbone and carbonation.

Poured from a bomber into a snifter glass cloudy amber with a thin head. Aroma is fruity malty very subtle hops. Flavor is overly bready sweet caramel with a bitter finish. Cant place what is off for me with this brew. It doesnt seem balanced from start to finish. Slightly below the average imperial red-disappointed.

Aroma: Malty nuttiness with caramel; a touch of mild citrus. Appearance: Copper red with a patch of bone head. Flavor: A little more butterscotch than caramel; citrus presence builds toward the finish, but can only be described as "light" at best. Palate: Medium body, tacky texture, soft carbonation, long finish. Overall: Rather shocked I hadnt rated this, but maybe its been that long. A maltier imperial amber thats pretty clean, but not too exciting.

I am an ale enthusiast. You cannot taste any alcohol sweetness at all. Malty offering with complexity and depth. An absolute treat!

Woody, toasty, toffee, nicely bittered. European style bomber, bad label. Aroma is actually a little muted. Dryish, the bitterness really hits you on the back and sides of the tongue. Medium body, long woody finish with some grass and raisin. Not quite what I expected, but decent. New Leaf Market.

My Bottom Line:
Toasted bread and caramel wade in lax residual sugars, as peppery hop bitterness balances out.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A veil of foam shrouds the cloudy red.
-Fruity touches are also felt.
-I have no idea if this bottle was close to being fresh as there is no date on it anywhere.
-The hop character is rather muddled.
-This is on the sweet side for my tastes in the style.

22oz bomber, courtesy of shrubber85, pours with a clear ruby red amber body that supports a nearly tight tan head of foam. The aroma offers up a mix of sweet caramel, molasses, crisp ripe red apples, pine hops and some ripe cherry notes. This has a pretty sweet aroma but the molasses to toffee notes takes this to a better place. The taste starts with sweet malts, sweet caramel malts and ripe cherries before pine hops and a dash of roasted malts join in to provide some balance. It gets a touch toffee and molasses like here and there too for adding richness and interest. Pretty nice.
