Oak aged cherry imperial stout
(previously seen at 10% and 90 IBU)
Malts: 75% Simpson’s Golden Promise 2-row; 10% roasted barley; 5% dark crystal malt; 7% sugar and 3% oats. Brewery Notes: Malts used in ThunderFoot are Pale, Chocolate, Roast, Special B, CaraMunich and Flaked Oats (also, sucrose is added). Hops are US Galena and Styrian Celeia. ThunderFoot is aged on medium toast American oak with mass quantities of Bing and Tart cherries, and fermented with NABC’s house yeast (OG 25 degrees Plato).
Part of the Footed Stout Series

Hops: Northern Brewer in the boil, the Northern Brewer, Willamette and Cascade (four further additions).

Yeast: The house London ale yeast.

Intriguingly, dried tart cherries were added to the hopback, and dried Bing cherries (and oak chips) put into the Brite tanks.

Pours dark with a creamy and sticky foam head. The aroma is of oak, some lactose, chocolate, cherries, and roasted malts. Tasting I picked up on a mild bitterness, muted acidic fruit flavor, oak, sugar sweetener, and oats. The finish is pleasant with a kind bitterness. The body is not too full. Overall a fine stout. I would have this again.

Poured from a bomber into a snifter motor oil brown. Aroma of cocoa sweet some light roastiness as well. Flavor off the top makes me think of chocolate covered cherries with a cup of coffee. Very smooth & delectable. Balanced nicely. Would easily pick up another bottle.

Bomber courtesy of queenholly. Thanks! Pours near pitch black with a medium sized dark brown head. Good head retention. Aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate, cocoa, smoke, soy, sunflower, very mild dark fruits. The taste is roasted malts, chocolate, wood, nutty notes, cocoa, bitter hops. Full bodied, chewy, well balanced. Very nice stout.

Pours a like a black sludge syrup. Lots of tart cherries and licorice in the nose. Cherry doesn’t come through as much in the flavor, although my friend said the previous bottles he has had, had more cherry character in them. Cherry did come out a little bit more once it reached room temperature. Finishes dry adn roasty. Mouthfeel was a touch thin and the carbonation levels were medium-high for the style. Solid beer by an in-state brewery. I’m not sure the cherries really did much to add to this outside of the aroma. Still decent complexity and it’s uniqueness is a plus.

22 oz. bottle thanks to queenholly. Thick oil color with thin tan head. Nose is great licorice, deep roasted chocolate malt, burnt coffee beans and ash. At the first sip a got a strong hop bitterness that reminds me of Cascade which was a big surprised since this has been cellared for at least 6 months. The bitterness is a nice way to cut all the roasted notes. Palate is thick and full with a chalky/ burnt ash texture. I don’t get any cherry or fruit but it is totally fine. I don’t know how old the bottle is but I enjoy it for what is in the glass in front of me. And to be able to still taste the hops is impressive.
