3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 12/20
As a big fan of cigar city, I was really looking forward to this one. It disappointed me. A nice fruity hop aroma but the taste is just not balanced. I get the heat from the chilies but no chili taste and the hops are lacking so it's an odd mix to me. Oh well, I'm happy they experimented, but bummed I bought two bombers because I don't really feel like drinking the other one. And they were $10/bottle
Disclosure: aged 3+ years
Aroma: malt sweetness, cooked chili peppers, spices, some caramel, wood, and a stale cheesy thing most likely from the Belgian yeast
Appearance: pours medium amber with a very decent 1/2" off-white head with average retention. its definitely hazy but clears slightly as it warms. some sediment is visible. did not observe any lacing.
Taste: not much apparent bitterness and lots of malty sweetness combined with the flavors and heat coming from the chilies. the cedar aging is more prevalent here than in the nose.
Palate: this a medium body beer leaning on the full... the texture is oily and rich. the carbonation remains moderate and the astringency is strong but not overwhelming and burns just a bit against the palate.
The finish is sweet and long with persistent heat from the peppers.
Overall: Experimental beer with lots of complexity. The bitterness has faded leaving lots of sweetness behind. Mostly has held up well. If fresh, I probably would have rated it a high 3, very close to 4. tom10101 (6085) - Quebec, CANADA - NOV 30, 2016
Backlog from Québec RB Gathering 2016. Clear golden with small white head leaving little lacing. Aroma is of chili peppers - mostly in a vegetal way - cardboard/oxidized notes, fruitiness from the yeast and some mild herbalness. Taste is even more hurt by oxidation as the mix of carboard and vegetal chili peppers is odd and unpleasant... it gets even worse with the fruitiness - borderline rotten fruits - and mild herbalness. Medium body. Moderate carbonation. Spicy finish with a lingering cardboard presence. It was over the hill for sure but definitely doesn’t make me want to try it fresh either. I smell orange, then my nose hairs are curling from pepper, a little honey, yes there’s heat, lingering but not intense, orange, cherry, caramel, alcohol in flavors. Almost not beer, fermented fruit with peppers?

Poured an amber is color with aromas of spoces, pepper, malt, light cedar and dissapointment. Flavors follow suit underwhelming for a beer that I expect to be better coming from 2 very solid breweries. Off flavors of too much spice for me and veggies meh. Bottle bought at Champanes,
this ale made an initial large faint off-white light yellow colored head of foamy bubbles when poured,
it was a light burnt-orange and gold color in the glass, there may have been a touch of red, the glass had a bit of sediment particles floating around, this beer left nice rings, spots and sheets of lacing on the sides of the glass,
the nose was toasted malt, some faint bread, some light citrus and faint lemon hops with malt and candy like sweetness,
there was peppers on the nose and it was light on the nose with a touch of vegetable like notes,
the flavors were toasted malt with citrus hops with a touch of resin,
the finish had some hop bitterness with toasted malt, the pepper heat came out after the drink and it was gentle and it was not overbearing,
this beer felt light medium on the palate, it was creamy and had average carbonation,
this beer was balanced with the malt, hops and pepper, the pepper was not over bearing and blended well with the malt sweetness,
when I saw this beer, I thought of the Stone’s Crime beer which was a total disaster, and hesitated a bit before picking up the bottle,
this beer was much better than the Stone’s Crime and actually had a balance between the malt and peppers, which the Stone Crime beer has none, even though this beer was pretty balance, it was not exciting as a drink, it was a nice though.

Pours a clear golden with a thin white head that leaves some lacing. Nose is of pepper and cardboard. Taste is a bit muddled and old as well, offering a light bitterness along with some sherry, sugar and a vague chili heat. Hops are long gone. Pretty sure this wasn’t meant to age... Average body and carbonation. Pretty much dead... czar (9085) - Québec, Quebec, CANADA - JUN 18, 2016
pours hazy golden, red tint, with a small off-white cap offering some retention and lacing. berry rotten fruitiness, smooth toffee, maybe some cherries, spices, chilies - low heat. moderate carbonation, light body, semi-sweet, warming spicy finish. old bottle. still ok. oldrtybastrd (5002) - Fort Walton Beach, Florida, USA - APR 12, 2016
Pours a dark golden amber. Aromas of chilis, hops, and some spices. Astringent cedar notes and hoppy flavor, not much chili. juiceisloose (1492) - Windermere, Florida, USA - FEB 13, 2016
22 oz bottle. Pours a mostly clear golden color and topped by a thick layer of off white foam that shows good retention. The aroma Is fruity and spicy with notes of chili peppers, citrus fruit, some wood, and a bready, pale malt base. Some earthy hops and spice come through as well. The flavor follows with the citrus fruit that is very tropical in nature with some earth chilis, sweet caramel and pale malts, a touch of wood, and some earthy hop bitterness on the back end. The chilis add a touch of heat, but not as much as expected. The flavor is more sweet and fruity with light spice. The cedar doesn’t come through much either. Medium bodied with balanced carbonation that leads to a bitter sweet and spice finish. Interesting beer, but not really what I was expecting. Still a nice flavor to it. jkwood04 (5448) - Connecticut, USA - NOV 3, 2015
22oz bottle in a taster glass. Pours amber with an off-white head. Aroma of generic beer plus some peppers. Flavor the same. Boring.
