3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: AUG 17, 2011 Bottle. The pour was a deep rich black with a reddish hue, it had a small creamy off-white head that dissipated almost fully although it did have some fair lacing.
The aroma was heavy of roasted chocolate malts a light sweet doughy yeast and a touch of resin hops with a hint of caramel and smidgen of coffee.
It tasted slightly sweet with a nice hint of chocolate in the beginning and finished with a nice bitter sweet flavor that had hints of chocolate, caramel and an had an ever so slight presence of dried fruit and hops at the end with the flavor fading quite fast.
Mouthfeel was medium to full in body with the texture being very creamy at first then becoming mildly dry with a flat carbonation.
Overall a very tasty brew, great for sitting around a fire on a cold night or having with dessert after dinner.
Not the best aroma I’ve ever smelled in a brown lager, but brilliant chocolate flavour, nice body and creamy beer head. Very enjoyable beer!

Full of flavor but too much “chocolate” in it for me. This mich flavor but a good bitter would be a champion

BB 17 Dec 17. Poured a dark cola brown with a one-finger light tan head that diminished slowly to a cap that laced well. Carbonation high, lively and fine to medium. Aroma of sweet caramel, dark fruits and milk chocolate, a bit like a porter. Taste is of moderately sweet caramel, dark fruits and subtle hints of roasted malts all with low bitterness. Light body. Smooth with a lingering moderately sweet finish. Bill Becker (1998) - Casper, Wyoming, USA - OCT 17, 2017
From Jan 2006
Poured from bottle(room temp) a pitch black with a huge head of foam that dissipates slowly leaving a fine layer and some lacing.
The smell is of roasted malt and there's a bit of a bitterness there as well...I like it.
The taste is dominated by roasted malt at first, with a noticeable oatmeal flavour that brings out some sweet notes coming through midway. The finish brings back the roastiness and is teamed with a bit of bitterness that makes for an excellent overall tasting beer.
Bottom line: Here's an unusual style of beer that has a lot of good things going on....I recommend it!

A fine beer. I probably wouldn't go buy a sixpack of it but I would enjoy it if I did. Big malty taste, lightly carbonated, lightly hopped. Very drinkable, improves as it warms. Somewhat nutty with a dry finish that has notes of biscuit

From bottle in shaker. Pours reddish brown with thick frothy head and modest choc malt aroma. Tasty and smooth with a bit of malt sweetness in the finish. Bob26 (4) - - SEP 8, 2017 does not count

Aromat kawy, razowego chleba. Kolor ciemnego bursztynu. Dobrze nasycone, piana z dużych pęcherzyków. Dość gorzkie.

Had this from the bottle. At the bar at the Hilton Garden Inn. Good very dark beer and very malty with chocolate flavor but not heavy.
