3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
A superior medium-bodied brew from New Belgium. Pours a very dark blackish burgundy. On first taste this struck me as being incredibly balanced compared to most of the beers I’ve recently tried—the taste is practically perfect in its own way. Hints of dry chocolate and a preponderance of malt. At its modest price, this refined yet sessionable ale is one I would recommend for nearly any occasion. Respect the 1554.
PS I saw one reviewer compare this to Killian’s Stout. This is superior.
Pours dark brown from the bottle and leaves a foamy, off white head that lingers. Aroma is toast, chocolate, caramel. Taste is lightly sweet with some mild bitterness in the finish. Body is medium with a rich, creamy, roasted character. Overall very nice. FinnIckler (479) - GERMANY - JUL 6, 2017
Bottle. Nose is citrus, earthy, chocolate, coffee. Palate is citrus, chocolate, toffee, bread. Pretty gritty, but still a nice brew. pkbites (947) - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA - JUL 3, 2017
On tap at Quaker Steak. Pours a lovely cola brown. Lighter nose of dry fruit and chocolate malted milk. Flavors of fig, chocolate and sight coffee. For a darker beer this has a pleasant light mouthfeel. Perfect for sipping or chugging. Hopper8 (178) - Holland, Michigan, USA - JUL 3, 2017
It’s a good beer. It’s a beer I’d have again. It’s got the toasty malt mouthfeel and flavor of a Porter and Stout with the light body of a lager. There is flavor here to have. ManVsBeer (10452) - Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, ENGLAND - JUN 25, 2017
Bottle from IGA, Cookeville, Tennessee. Dark brown with a thin head. The dark lager malt is perhaps more stated in its nose than taste, but the latter has a nice smoothness about it.

Draft at Cornerstone. Pours pitch black with tan head into a pint glass. Aroma is roasted malts, light coffee, and light licorice. Flavor includes dark chocolate, dark fruits, and some coffee. Ends with a robust bitter/roasty finish. Would buy this again! alobar (3784) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - MAY 27, 2017

Pours clear dark mahogany color with a large off-white head. Malty and nutty aroma with hints of cocoa, mild hops. Flavor has caramel and nutty dry malts, mild orange notes, subtle resin and some chocolaty bitterness at the end. A bit mellow, easy to drink though.
