Climb on in and grab a paddle. Our first foray into lagered beers, Blue Paddle Pilsener-Lager, is a Czech style pilsener with a refreshing crispness from noble hops and a rich, malty finish. ‘Blue Paddle’ refers to the implement our warehouse manager’s Grandma once used to lovingly paddle his a** when she caught him stealing sips of her beer. With more body than a traditional Belgian pils, Blue Paddle is reflective of Europe’s finest pilseners.

A - Pours a clear golden with a dense white head that retains well throughout the beer and leaves a couple patches of lacing. S - Grassy hops, floral hops, dry straw, hints of honey malt. T - A little sweet off the top, then grassy hops come in along with some lemon zest and notes of apple. Malt is slightly sweet but the finish is crisp and smooth. Aftertaste is grassy with notes of lemon. M - Prickly carbonation with light to medium body. This one surprised me. It was better than I expected. Everything was mild but everything blended together very well. Serving type: bottle 10-19-2010

Rating #2671 - 2016.06.30 - Bottle from @HorizonKyle. Clear yellow pour with a bubbly white foam that dissipates rather quickly. Medium carbonation. Aroma is sweet malts, mild alcohol - not much grass, citrus, spice at all. Taste is rich with malt flavour, finish is dry, crisp, generously hoppy bite of Saaz in the finish

Clear , yellow color. Nice, white head. Malt , bread and grass in aroma. Malty sweetness dominates in taste , but this beer has enough of hoppy bitterness at the end to balance it. Good pilsener. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Clear golden color, medium white head. Aroma of hay, grass, and hops. Light body, light sweet taste, a little watery even for a pils. Dull finish. Ok overall.

aracauna (3633) - Georgia, USA - NOV 18, 2016
Not their best offering. The malt isn’t quite dry enough and the hips not quite assertive enough to be in the best of style.

2015 BJCP Category: 3B Czech Premium Pale Lager

AROMA: Light sweet grainy malt; slight bread character. Light floral/spicy hops. Clean fermentation. 8/12

APPEARANCE: Crystal clear golden hue; plenty of CO2 bubbles. Large, white frothy head retains and laces well. 3/3

FLAVOR: Standard lager base palette with light blonde malt character throughout. No maize or adjunct flavor. Mild spicy hop sensation on the finish. Clean fermentation. Decent flavor, but not as robust or complex as should be for the style. 13/20

MOUTHFEEL: Medium-light body; medium carbonation. Crisp and refreshing with a moderate starchy aftertaste, otherwise clean and quaffable. 3/5

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Probably better considered as an International lager as the ingredients are not true to the style. Still, quite enjoyable and easy to drink. 7/10

The 12 oz. bottle came out of New Belgium’s Folly 12 pack. Doubt I would have tried it otherwise, just not my style. Poured into a globe glass with a decent appearing golden yellow color. Very little head and what there was promptly thinned out. Attractive bubbling though. Small nose, hay and grass. Taste of grain, water, nothing extraordinary. Reminds me of a big brew light beer. Maybe I am spoiled by the more challenging beers.

Sample at SBWF 2016. A bit hazy golden with a white head. Aroma and taste of bread, grass, light fruit and some hops. Fairly light and with a medium bitter finish.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pilsner glass. Clear golden color with thin head. Little overwhelming straw taste for my preference. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

One of the better pills is out there. Good and crisp. Your mind after taste. Out of a can on a golf course.
