COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Named in honor of our founder Jeffs bike trip through Belgium, Fat Tire Amber Ale marks a turning point in the young electrical engineers home brewing. Belgian beers use a far broader palette of ingredients (fruits, spices, esoteric yeast strains) than German or English styles. Jeff found the Belgian approach freeing. Upon his return, Jeff created Fat Tire and Abbey Belgian Ale, (assuming Abbey would be his big gun). He and his wife, Kim traveled around sampling their homebrews to the public. Fat Tires appeal quickly became evident. People liked everything about it. Except the name. Fat Tire won fans is in its sense of balance: toasty, biscuit-like malt flavors coasting in equilibrium with hoppy freshness.

I do not think that the belgian yeast flavor goes at all with this beer. I first tasted this beer with such anticipation as I heard so much good about it. What a letdown! There were 3 of us and we couldnt even finish 1/2 of a bottle. I dont see what the deal is with this beer.

bottle. Poured clear orange-amber with creamy beige head. Malty aroma but a bit metallic. Medium-light body, lower carbonation, creamy mouthfeel. Grainy malt flavour, notes of toffee, citrus and peppery belgian yeast.

A classic in every right to the craft community. A standard setter in amber ales. Light roast and roast with moder caramel sweetness. Friendly and crushable.

(Best Before date June 2017, presumably canned June 2016) Copper colour with a small, short lived head. Nose: Slightly sweet malt, baked bread, yeast, some resinous hops, some alcohol. Taste: The arrival is soft and malty, with moderate, fine carbonation. The mid palate is rather light, with a collection of mild, but nice, "hoppy", slightly bitter spices. The exit is less defined, slightly malt sweet and rather short. I started this beer out at fridge temperature. But it clearly benefited from warming up in the glass and gave a better impression at around 12-14 degrees C. Coming from a can it also needed some 5-10 minutes to open up on the nose.

Beautiful copper colored beer with a nice head and good lacing. Malty notes of toast, bread and caramel and lightly buttressed with resinous hop notes. Sweet palate with a nice finish and good overall balance. Could drink this all day long.
