Ale brewed with Lemon Peel and infused with Espresso
Giddy Up is a delicious juxtaposition of coffee, sustainably grown in Brazil and espresso-roasted locally, pressed into an ale with the deep color of a copper cowboy kettle. First whiff is full of sweeet caramel, toffee, latte. Then, a hint of lemon scone flavor from the addition of lemon peel. Body is creamy, resonant of espresso, yet the finish is bright, even a bit frisky. An ale to git along with...

Im used to coffee stouts and porters (and am a big fan), this one was great in a totally different way. Very good balance between coffee and lemon, which I never thought would work, not as earthy or toasty as the flavors in coffee stouts or porters. So far Ive only seen this as part of a sampler, at least you get 4 of them in it though.

12 oz bottle- Pours clear dark brown to ruby red with a thin light tan head that reduces to a collar. Aroma is sweet, lightly roasted espresso beans, vanilla. The taste is espresso beans, caramel, lemon (especially in the finish, very zesty), vanilla, all easy drinking. Body is the fault here, way too thin, it should be fuller, creamier, more robust. Good beer, I could drink a few!

Type: 12-oz. bottle Glass: Lagunitas mason jar From: VONS in Normal Heights (San Diego), Calif. Price: $14.99 for a variety Folly 12-pack Purchased: Sept. 4, 2013 Consumed: Sept. 4, 2013 Misc.: Best by Dec. 15, 2013 Poured a dark reddish brown somewhat clear color with two fingers of khaki tan head. Decent amount of even circular lacing along the sides of the glass. Above average retention. Smelled roasted coffee malts, espresso, dark chocolate, burnt toast, caramel and toffee. Coffee really dominates. Tasted similar to the nose. Initially got roasty coffee malts, espresso, coffee beans, roasty nuts, toast, toffee and caramel. More like a porter than an amber in my opinion. Medium body. Creamy texture. Average-to-soft carbonation. Smooth finish. A pretty decent beer really. Beer Advocate has it as an American Amber/Red Ale, but I see it more as a porter.

Aroma is strong grain notes, rye, nuttiness and cereal (possibly Life or Chex). The flavor is coffee/espresso, complex malts/grains, light fruit and a mix of slight tartness/mostly thick smoothness in the finish.

Pour a nice dark amber. Well balanced. The coffee isn't too strong and works well with he mild citrus and malts. It's a keeper. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a clear dark ruby - moderate lace - nose of earthy, caramelized sugars, vanilla, oily coffee bean, lightly tangy lemon - flavor is medium sweet toffee up front, followed by moderate coffee bean, earthiness/mushroom, a touch of smoke - lemon peal is hardly noticeable - finish of toasty malt and light coffee - a strange combo - not bad, but it doesnt all work as well together as it could.

Bottle Pour - translucent brown with a thin head that recedes quickly. Aroma is sweet malt, coffee, hint of milk chocolate...very clean for the style. Flavor is different than anything I can recall, and it works quite well actually...malty beer flavor up front is quickly replaced by smooth espresso notes, and even a citrusy feel as well...ends with a considerable chocolate (& coffee) note. Sweet throughout, there is little to no hop presence here. Slight corn flavor mid-drink. Palate is very smooth and slightly rich - at least more viscous than I expected. Wouldnt drink many of these, but not upset I have 3 more left to enjoy...
