COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
La Folie, French for "the folly," is a beer steeped in New Belgium brewing tradition. This wood-aged, sour brown spends one to three years in big, oak barrels, known as foeders. And when the beer finally hits the glass, La Folie is sharp and sour, full of green apple, cherry, and plum-skin notes. Pouring a deep mahogany, the mouthfeel will get you puckering while the smooth finish will get you smiling. Not a beer for the timid, La Folie is a sour delight that will turn your tongue on its head. Find out why it’s considered one of the best sour beers around.

UPDATED: NOV 14, 2017 2017 vintage. Deep brown, slight reddish hue. No head. Classic Flanders brown aroma sour vinegar, earthy, fragrant wine. Immediately massive sourness, didn't see it coming. Afterwards the oak or wood barrel or foeder comes through nicely. There's is definitely a fruitiness to it, but I can't say Im getting cherries and apples, as advertised. A few sips in and I got some sweet malt in the finish which really shows how complex this is. Ive read about this one and how it's such a big deal and I have to agree. It's the best "sour brown" I can recall. Ive had about a dozen of NB's more easily accessible beers and found them all to be total crap, so it's nice to finally try this and see the quality side of this likeable brewery. American classic and worth the hunt!

Flaska från SB. Vintage 2017.

Pours semi-opaque ruby red-brown with a 1-finger bone-colored head that was gone quickly. Tart cherry aroma with a touch of wood mixed in. Medium body, with a touch of syrupy character. Long finish with a tart dryness. Tart cherry flavor mixed with a wood note. Some yeast funk at the back.

UPDATED: OCT 29, 2017 650 bomber bottle at home, thanks Jef! 2014 vintage I think. Reddish brownish with tan head. Aroma and taste are sour and complex, fruit, plums, cherries, caramel, acetic, lactic, woody notes and apples leading to a sour fruity finish.

2013 Bottle shared at epic Cantillon tasting. Aroma: brett, caramel, brown sugar, slightly oxidated. App: brown, reddish, minimal beige brown head, leaving great lacing especially for a 2013 bottle. Taste and palate: medium body, light sweetness, moderate high acidity and dry finish. Overall: good stuff. A bit too much acidity for me but it's well made. Good stuff.
