Biere De Mars is New Belgium’s exploration of the classic French and Belgian brews celebrating the half-winter, half-spring month of March. Our bottle-conditioned version, however, goes where no BIERE DE MARS has gone before. After gazing at its cloudy, yet glowing orange hue, prepare yourself for a celestial collaboration of oats, wheat, barley malt and lemon verbena, all of which is set into orbit by unidentified flying yeast strains.

Tap. Golden small head. Maltiness in flavor, slightly sweet. Drinkable but nothing special.

JPDIPSO (6298) - Wauwatosa, USA - MAY 5, 2003
Slightly hazy amber with an initially fluffy cream colored head. Heavy appearance, with slow traveling bubbles. Aromas of spiced light citrus. Flavors start out with a light crispy fruitiness and continue to a lightly peppered ripe fruit encore. Smooth on the tongue. Yeasts float about and keep the flavors light, spicy and refreshing.

GreatSatanUSA (107) - Austin, Texas, USA - APR 30, 2003
Enjoyable fruit beer, tastes kind of like a lager with subtle citrus/orange flavor.

hopscotch (11451) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - APR 28, 2003
Deep, hazy golden/orange color. Large, rocky white head. Mostly lasting with excellent lacework. The nose holds notes of soap, citrus and vineous fruit. The flavor is malty and lightly sweet up front, then balanced out nicely on the backside with lightly bitter and astringent citrus fruit peel flavors. Medium-bodied with a watery mouthfeel and very fizzy carbonation. Short, astringent and very dry finish. Citrusy and tart at the wee end. Very refreshing Spring beer! Thanks to jskendzel for this brew!

This was the first brew for me in this style, so I had no idea what to expect. It was crisp and refreshing. The lemon is not overpowering, and the other flavors are well rounded.

shaeffbser (70) - Vail, Colorado, USA - APR 10, 2003
wheat, flowery aroma. cloudy, orange body with light fluffy white head. Flowery fragrance with wheat/yeast taste.

leitrim65 (402) - Seattle, Washington, USA - APR 4, 2003
Hint of apples and pears when first poured to be overwhelmed by a malty aroma. Cloudy burnt orange color with large yeast particles floating about. Full bodied smooth and creamy on the palate with long lasting bitter after taste.

Dougal (130) - Escondido, California, USA - MAR 27, 2003
Looks like an Iraqi sandstorm ... awesome orange/gold color. Some really unusual fruit flavor undoubtedly brought about by the oats and lemon, makes for a damned tastey brew. New Belgium does it again!

omhper (25956) - Tyresö, SWEDEN - MAR 24, 2003
Bottled. Amber coloured. Funky, yeasty aroma. Fruity and very lively with notes of blue cheese. Clean hard malt profile. Notes of toffee in the finish.

jskendzel (602) - Washington DC, USA - MAR 23, 2003
Tap at brewery: Hazy/orange in color. A rather dry palate. Lemon gives a nice zest with citrus notes. Very light and pleasant.
