Cascara Quad is a dark, strong and surprisingly delicate ale made with dates and coffee cherries. Channeling the Trappist tradition, it’s brewed with an ethereal malt bill, and spiced with the fruit of the coffee bean (cascara). The aroma brings dates, cherries and pipe tobacco right to the nose and builds layers with hints of spice and fruity Belgian yeast. Once on the palate, Cascara Quad starts swinging clove, fig and molasses. Each sip offers sweet warmth, deep complexity and fleeting dryness.

Hops: Hallertauer Hersbrucker-Nobel, Styrian-Golding-Nobel
Malts: Pale, Munich, Caramel Munich, Biscuit, Black
Fruits/Spice: Belgium Amber Candy Sugar, Date Sugar, Cascara Tea
Body: Medium-Heavy
Aroma: Ripe figs, raisins, plums, black cherries, toffee, chocolate, pipe tobacco, rich Corinthian leather and leather bound books.
Mouthfeel: Starts big and smooth, finishes still smooth yet the cascara tea and higher ABV will bring a nice dry warm end to this epic novel.
Flavor: Sweet and rich, huge complex overall taste.
Visual: Brooding, dark, cloudy berry brown with tan head.

Pours brown with Amber highlights. Astringent nose. Great head retention. Dried fruit, brown sugar, and alcohol on the palate. Tastes too much of alcohol to pick out the more subtle flavors, which is a shame.

22 ounce bottle poured a dark clear amber color with aromas of bananas, dark pitted fruit, light cherries, bread, and some yeast. Flavors were the same a lot going on in the flavor profile. The beer was OK I just think they tried to do too much to this beer.

Heavy body and aroma of bananas. The flavor is ever changing. It includes a bread flavoring, coffee, the dates are there, dark cherry, and a alcohol bite. Smooth.

Smells delicious. Cherries, spice, wheat and breadiness. Taste is sour and an alcoholic flavor you taste in your nose. One and done.

bottle. deep amber with small head. boozy with dark fruit and light cherry. pretty underwhelmed by this one.

harrymel (1551) - Spokane, Washington, USA - NOV 18, 2013
Bottled recently. Toasted caramel color with a fleeting etched surface with light tan foam. Smells like cherry cough syrup with some bits of cocoa and coffee, a little marshmallow and yeast as well. Very sweet, cherry, some nougat, some medicinal syrup, not really feeling this. Medium on thin for the style with tight, clean carb and a semi dry finish. One and done here

A solid beer but I guess it’s lacking something for a quad. A very smooth mouthfeel & a very good pour - this is a good beer overall. Cherry & bourbon aroma which is true to the flavor. The light body may not be true to the style but it makes this beer quite drinkable at 10%.

FROTHINGSLOSH (8069) - GREENSBURG, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 18, 2013
From the November 2013 3R6P tasting. +++ Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a hazy orange-brown color with a medium sized foamy beige head that left good lacing. The aroma was sweet toasted caramel, dark fruits, bread and yeast. The flavor was tangy and sweet caramel, date, raisin, dark fruits and was a touch boozy and grainy. Medium finish. Moderately full bodied and smooth. Interesting.

Bottle at Bruce’s new pad, thanks to Kenny, 15/10/13. Hazed dark amber with a good sized off white head. Nose is dates, sugars, spice, cake mix, marzipan. Taste comprises dates, prunes, dark fruit base, brown sugar, toffee. Full bodied, fine carbonation, drying finale with a touch of alcohol. Ok quad - booze is well contained.

Tasting at Bruce’s new pad. Very hazy amber beer with a big pale cream coloured head. Palate is soft and airy and fairly dry. Creamy malt. Light spice. A little bubblegum ester. Light wood. Little coca cola. Smooth dry finish with a woody bitter aftertaste. Not bad!
