Oh my God. It’s not only a reaction for drinking one of Dieu De Ciel’s beers, but a figurative translation of the Montreal brewery’s name. Just ask our brewmaster, he’s in heaven when drinking this collaborative tripel, inspired by Dieu De Ciel’s love of hibiscus and Belgians love of the obscure, hence our addition of tart feijoa fruit. Cheers!

Bottle, from Cash Wise poured into my NB goblet. A flat, hazy orange/straw color with a finger of creamy sand-colored head. The head quickly dissipates and leaves a thin ring for the entire glass. At first sniff I thought apple cider vinegar, but it warms up to lighter floral notes, hibiscus, Belgian yeast, and a fruity sweet-tart blend. Good flavor, a nice balance of the sweet tart fruit (must be the Feijoa) to the yeast and florals. With the exception of a little hint of apple cider vinegar again in the tail, it finishes nice. Maybe a tad light on the carbonation, but the finish and body work together to overcome this. Pairs well with General Tso’s chicken. I’ve had this in the cellar for 4-5 months, and should have drank it sooner, but overall it’s drinking really well right now.

Bottle: Poured a cloudy dark golden color ale with a large foamy head with OK retention and minimal lacing. Aroma of hibiscus notes and tart Feijoa notes is not as enticing as I was expecting. Taste was dryer then expected with quite a bit of tart Feijoa notes with also quite a bit of hibiscus notes. Body was quite full with medium carbonation and no apparent alcohol. Off-balanced ingredient with low drinkability meant a deception in this case.

Great flowery smell coming off of the beer. The look is cloudy with a good pour. Beer is a little tart but it is welcome. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
