Serving up cold and jet black, this imperial stout should be taken seriously for about one minute as the dark foam builds. Then, enjoy its velvety chocolate-covered smoothness and delicious aroma of sustainably-grown, locally-roasted coffee.

Bottle. Foamy light khaki head, nearly black body. Oats, bitter espresso and dark chocolate in the aroma. Flavor is iced esprsso, very toasty and coffee driven, bitter, toasty, and dry finish. Medium to lighter body that’s softer...could use more heft there. Just ok.

From the bottle, it looks like coffee with about a two inch pillow of chocolate milk colored foam on top. Deep dark chocolate brown, nearly no light penetrating. Rich mocha aroma, with a hint of booze and just a touch of sour fruit smell. The flavor is rich and roasty, chocolate, coffee, caramel, orange, cherry. Nice and viscous, I sat on this one for about 6 months and it’s nice and mellow. VERY good.

22 oz bottle poured into snifter. Dark black brown color with a nice tan mocha head. Aroma of coffee, dark chocolate and roasted malt. Flavor starts with a sweet chocolate malt which quickly goes to a slightly bitter strong coffee taste. Body is medium and carbonation is light to medium with tight bubbles. Overall a tasty stout although the coffee flavor was a little overpowering, covered up the other flavors.

Finhead (1783) - OFallon, Illinois, USA - MAR 21, 2013
Dark brown with a frothy, brown head. The aroma has ample coffee along with milk chocolate and toffee. It has a medium body with sticky texture and average carbonation. The taste is mildly sweet with a roasted coffee finish.

bottle - Pours black with a tan head. It smells of coffee, roast malt, and some alcohol. It has a big roasted coffee malt flavor with some good hops balance. It’s full bodied with a roasted coffee aftertaste. Really good, especially as it warms.

Bottle shared at the Coffee District. Dark brown pour. Coffee aromas. Thin in the body and watery with mild black coffee and almost chocolate notes.

From the March 2013 3R6P tasting. +++ Sampled from a 22 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a medium sized soapy brown head that left a bit of lacing. The aroma was semi-sweet licorice, cocoa and a bit of coffee. The flavor was dryish and toasty with notes of Bakers chocolate, a hint of coffee and a touch of roasty malts. Medium length finish of roasty cocoa. Medium body. Disappointing.

Black pour with a 3 finger, chunky tan head. Aroma is coffee, toasted white bread, milk chocolate, lactose sweetness, hints of dark fruit, berry tartness, caramel coated granola and Malt-O-Meal. Flavor starts off with lots of coffee, roasted nuts, lactose sweetness, earth, char, acidic chocolate, toast and earth and pine hops. Medium body with a creamy, sticky entry, slightly dry finish and light, somewhat blanketing carbonation. Good stuff, no real wow factor to it though.

Bomber. Aromas of chocolate, roast, coffee cake, and more cocoa powder. Tastes pretty similar with a ton of chocolate and coffee notes mixing well. Looks fantastic, with a jet black body and a thin mocha head. Overall a nice coffee stout.

Chipalsa (1310) - Florida, USA - MAR 3, 2013
22oz Bottle - Thanks OmegaX!
Appearance - Oily black, leather head
Aroma - Roasted malts, hotel coffee, cocoa powder
Taste - Mocha, caramel, dark chocolate, bitter finish

I like how smooth all the chocolate flavors melded together here. It’s a very smooth drinker with just enough bite at the end to remind you of it’s 9% alcohol content.
