Draft at Fobab 10. Pours a deep brown with a tan head. The nose is full of fresh apple pie. Vanilla, cider, cinnamon and rich melanoidins and bread. Some light funk but mostly apple. On tasting, lightly acidic with a persistent punch of apple sauce and cinnamon. Apple pie is the dominant player here. Really enjoyable overall, though not really a sour ale. valpoaj (745) - Valparaiso, Indiana, USA - DEC 16, 2012
Sampled at FOBAB ’12 - dark mahogany pour with a poofy tan head which doesn’t recede! Aroma is sour apple, rum, wood, vanilla and an underlying sourness - quite good! Flavor is very similar to the aroma - some added spice comes through, but there’s some roasted malt, lots of sour apple. Palate is slightly warming with the booze evident, but good mouthfeel. Can’t go to a FOBAB and not try something from NB, and this was a good choice! TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - NOV 27, 2012
Sampled at FoBAB 10 - 2012 (Chicago, IL). Pours a rich deep brownish black pour, dark but not hazy, some good glow on the edges and bottom. Frothy head stays atop laces well. Aromas are gentle toast and toffee, apple whiskey, oak vanilla, gentle tartness and funk. Initila is pie spice apple cinnamon and spirit, touches of cider, gentle toasty, oak, spirit, kiss of marshmellow. Spice, some apple, toasty. Middle is a bit more spirit laden, funk, and oak. Backend and finish shows spice, oak, toffee. Solid, gentle tartness and big funk. Steve_0 (3744) - Denver, Colorado, USA - OCT 11, 2012
On Tap at Star Bar. Pour is deep brown with an amber tint and small khaki head. Light sour whiskey, green apples, light banana, a hint of cocoa, cinnamon, dark fruits, coffee, and alcohol in the aroma. Taste is fruity esters, gin, green apples, slight roast, and spice with a very small tart finish . Medium mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Kind-of weird and muddled, slightly boozy, but I don’t mind it. Interesting beer.
