Cross pollinate your tastebuds with Belgian imagination and you’ll be sipping this ale while visions of pluots dance in your head. Pluots? A hybrid of apricots and plums that impart a subtle sweetness. Ferment that with a wild Belgian yeast strain and you have a fruity yet spicy nature with a body reminiscent of red wine. Delicious.

On tap at the Tap House in Lemont. Pours a bright orange pour with a nice big white head. Aroma of plums, apricots, belgian yeasty esters, touches of tripel notes. Flavor is quite sweet, focusing on fleshing fruit notes, with some alcohol and bitterness from what I can only assume is pluot skin. Slick bodied, lively carbonation, Lots of sugar and alcohol towards the finish. Yeah, never again.

Sample at Ale Jail. Pours a pale gold with white head. Very very sweet, fruit is washed away by the sweetness. Really not good. 10% is unnecessary but is the best part of this beer. It isn’t good.

VsXsV (4572) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - OCT 17, 2013
Sample at Stockholm Beer and Whiskey Festival 2013. Clear golden liquid with small white head. Aroma of apples, fruit, banana, bread, sugar, plums and dried fruit. Taste is light sweet, light bitter and light sour with notes of apples, fruit and banana. Medium bodied with medium carbonation. Just OK.

What a surprise! Light orange pour with almost no head. Fruity, yeasty, grapey aroma. Very strong fruit flavor with a nice astringency that reminded me of orange pith. Apricot and, well, plum fruit that is very forward but balanced. Nicely balanced, a bit peppery from the high alcohol. Not normally a fan of fruit beers but this was a winner. Would I drink again? yes. Would I order again? yes.

Draft. From notes. Super sweet and tart. Very very fruity with a hint of spicy yeast. Pretty darn good.

Tap pour - body is a pale orange with no head once the glass arrived to the table. Aroma is fruity and sweet...plums are evident, citrusy, somewhat yeasty. Flavor is kind of odd to be honest...generally sweet, there is a bit of tartness in this one to balance things a bit, but the fruit flavor is just a bit overwhelming (given it isn’t a great fruit flavor IMO). Palate is light bodied given the ABV (10%, are you kidding me?). Glad I tried it once, and that will probably be where it ends...

MadRobin (2989) - Silver Spring, Maryland, USA - OCT 3, 2013
On tap taste at Quench! in Silver Spring, MD. Clear, yellow-straw with an off-white head and fair lacing. Aroma of fruit, sweet plums, Muscat dessert wine and apricot. Taste of apricot, Muscat dessert wine, alcohol, sweet plums and honey. Full body and medium/low carbonization. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Location: 22 oz bottle from Central Market, 10/2/13

Aroma: A quite fruity nose (I definitely get pluot) with some spice, yeast, and earthy notes
Appearance: It pours a mostly clear golden-orange color with a thin white head and medium lace
Flavor: The taste is mid-sweet and a little tart, with some earthiness and spice as well
Palate: The body is light-medium, it clean and fizzy, a little bit sticky, and a quick, tart finish
Overall Impression: I actually thought this was a pretty cool beer. I’m not usually the hugest fruit beer fan, but I do enjoy a good pluot every now and again. This isn’t a straight fruit beer either. It has a few other things going on that provide a nice balance. Anyway, I am a fan of any beer that feels successful, and this beer feels successful.

Pours clear golden with thin head. Fruity, tart aroma. Light fruity flavour with some sourness. Palate is clean and refreshing. Something to give to your wife while you drink the good stuff.

I come from the perspective of really liking fruit beers, but I didn’t like this. Big grape, plum aroma, and there is light sourness reminiscent of fresh fruit juice, but the sweetness builds and becomes unrelenting. Too much for me to like. Yellow-ish color. (bottle, 2013 Ale Jail festival, St. Paul, MN)
