In a never-ending quest to create new beers and defy category, New Belgium Brewing and Brewerij Boon of Belgium have partnered together again to create Transatlantique Kriek - a spontaneously fermented lambic ale made with Polish cherries. This authentic kriek beer began life in the oaken vessels at Frank Boon’s brewery in the Lembeek region of Belgium. After more than two years aging, Boon’s offering shipped across the Atlantic and found its way to the intuitive palate of New Belgium’s Brewmaster Peter Bouckaert. After much sampling and internal consultation, Peter and his brew staff created a full-bodied golden lager to round out the light-bodied kriek. The cherry nose gives way to a pleasingly sour flash across the palate that rolls gently into a slightly sweet finish. Crisp, effervescent carbonation keeps the mouthfeel bright and delightfully tingly. Previously 6.3

A light red hazy beer with a beige disappearing head. The aroma is sweet cherry with notes of marcipan. The flavor is sweet cherry with artificial notes of marcipan. I must admit I’m disappointed in this one - way too sweet for a kriek.

Bottle shared at ACBS courtesy of Steptin. Cheers James! Hazy orange - red beer, little white head. Light dry palate. A little sourness to start and a trace of Cherry. Turns sweeter quite quickly - somewhat saccahrin. A whisper of lactose in the dry finish. Ok.

[email protected] Red colour, not much head. Aroma is cherries, wood, some mild sourness as well as mild vanilla. Flavour is cherries, some mild wooden notes as well as some slight burnt sugar and some mild spicy notes lurking in the background.

Bottled, thanks Dr.Bill! Cloudy bright red. BValsamic black cherry aroma. Fairly sweet, light bodied with clean rounded mouthfeel. Lightly lemony finish. Nice aroma, but from there on it disappoints - too sweet and lacking in character.

Papsoe (25055) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - APR 23, 2010
Bottle 65 cl. Courtesy of KimJohansen. Pours a hazy red with a small pinkish head. Really dirty aroma - lots of barnyard here. Medium body, dry cherries with an underlying sweetness. Slightly tart finish, but not openly sour. An interesting blend indeed. 230410
