COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A burly and bitter Imperial IPA, Rampant pours a pure copper and carries the sheen of a rightly hopped beer. The Mosaic and Calypso hops bring stonefruit to the front seat, and the addition of Centennials nod towards citrus for a well-rounded aroma. The taste expands these hops with heavy peach tones and a profoundly bitter bite. There is some malt sweetness to stand this beer up, and Rampant’s finish is bone-dry.

Pours an orange-amber with foamy white head. Smells of peach and citrus, biscuits. Taste is bitter and sweet - citrus, bread/biscuit with a bit of peach pit at the end.

North End American Grill, North Wildwood, NJ in Bottle. I came back to the North End to have Cape May Brewery Coastal Evacuation Imperial IPA. Unfortunately, they were having a problem with the tap so I selected Rampant in a bottle. It has become one of my favorite beers -- up there with Guinness (which has some sentimental value to me). It does have a enjoyable sweetness in it -- but -- it does have a bitter bite, much more so than Cape May Coastal Evacuation.

8.5%ABV. Imperial IPA. Poured out gold. 8ºSRM. Nose is sweet malt, pine. Mouthfeel is soapy. Palate has ton of sweet malt and malted sugar with an almost corn syrup sweet. Hops are bright, citrus peel, grapefruit peel burst like when you bite into a yellow grapefruit, then light pine, deep spruce needles with that aromatic oily dimension to it. Some spiciness with deep cilantro maybe some wild scallion. Finish is medium-long with resin predominating. Overall a valiant effort but not a very even tasting ride for me. Maybe because the malt profile was a little one dimensional without much depth although sweet.

On tap at St. Augustine’s during New Belgium 25th anniversary celebration. Pours a clear golden with a white head. Aroma is skunky, herbal, floral. Hoppy taste has pretty the character. Very pleasant, but not enough of residual sweetness as for me.

Smells piney and hoppy. Tastes the exact same. This pours a clear gold color, has great lacing and some small head retention. This is an excellent beer.

Decent sized bright white head of fine bubbles. Nice citrusy and sappy hops aroma with some tangerine, lemon rind, fresh grass and rice cakes. Color is a medium gold. Lots more piney hops in the flavor with some salty caramel, mint, grapefruit pith and dry grains. Rather zippy on the tongue and imparts a nice tingle from latent carbonation. Moderate alcohol presence. Finishes minty and bitter with some lingering sweet malts and cough syrup. A decent IIPA.

Clear deep golden with small white head. Aroma is nice citrus hops, medium body, lower carbonation, and a little lacing. Taste is herbal hops and bitter hops.

Bottle pour. Appearance is clear golden yellow with decent sparkle, finger-width white head with poor retention, no lacing. Aroma is floral with citrus and fruit with some background malts. Taste is as aroma. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with thin, creamy texture, average carbonation and floral bitter finish. Overall, not a groundbreaking imperial IPA but decent.
