A burly and bitter Imperial IPA, Rampant pours a pure copper and carries the sheen of a rightly hopped beer. The Mosaic and Calypso hops bring stonefruit to the front seat, and the addition of Centennials nod towards citrus for a well-rounded aroma. The taste expands these hops with heavy peach tones and a profoundly bitter bite. There is some malt sweetness to stand this beer up, and Rampants finish is bone-dry.

Why the low ratings on this? Its just ranger with a bit more hops and alcohol, it tastes great and is reasonably priced. There is something about being called a double ipa that creates unreasonably high expectations among beer raters. I gaurantee you if this were sold and classified as a standard ipa, it would get much higher ratings and people would agree that it is an improvement on ranger. Of course its not as sophisticated and balanced as the heavywieghts of the style, but did anyone expect that from new belgium? Remember that your paying 8 per six pack and just enjoy and stop comparing to hopslam.

Bottle. Aroma of hops and orange zest. The taste starts off with a layered hop profile, with some sweetness in the middle and finishes with a nice bitterness. Great IPA, better than their Ranger beer. 8.5% alcohol.

Big and piney nose and flavor profile. Fairly dry all over the place. Its a decent DIPA, and really you cant beat $8 a 6er! Will buy off and on this summer for sure.

DIPA version of their Ranger. If you like Ranger youll like this. There is a similar hop profile only more so and the malt profile is similar but also more potent.

On draught at Yard House in Scottsdale. The beer is a clear copper-amber color with a medium off-white head that dissipates slowly to a film. Partial rings of lacing on the glass. Aroma of piney hops and roasted malt. Medium body with a resiny hops character and notes of toasted malt and fruit. The finish is moderately bitter with an earthy hops aftertaste. Decent overall.

Bottle. Nose of pine, citrus and soap. Tastes like pine and alcohol. The alcohol, gas taste really starts to shine as it warms. Pretty poor dipa.

Draft. Poured a rather golden color, with a slight head. Aroma was grapefruit, pine, notes of tropical fruit. Flavor was a dead on match. I may have conjured up some peach on closer inspection. Medium bodied, dry finish. Malts just present enough to keep the bitterness balanced. Nice beer.

Copper/golden color. Very white head with pine on the nose. Has a pine bite on the back end that lingers.

Clear light amber with heavy hop aroma and flavor. But its unbalanced with strong floral hops and little to back it up. Good overall, but not great.
