Mild traditional winter warmer spices are featured in the smell and taste of this beer. It starts off like a typical amber-colored pale ale--copper color, single finger head, nearly clear. Leaves good streaky lace.
The smell is muted bittering hop and lighter malts.

Poured a foggy red brown.
Nose was of oak, pumpkin pie spices, and a hint of red wine.

Stone sour ale fest 09. Dark brown pour. this was a really interesting beer. I liked the aroma. Chocolate, cinnamin, nutmeg, sweet malts, and fruit. The flavor did not really five with the sournes though in my opinion. On tap at the Stone Sourfest. Dark brown, chocolate tinted body with a thick finger of creamy tan head. The aroma presents an odd blend of licorice and an almost chipotle-like spicy quality supported by a mild acetic note. Toasted fennel seed and cardomom. Strange smokey phenols. Medium bodied, moderately carbonated mouthfeel with a somewhat creamy texture and a moderate acidity. Flavors of chocolate and chipotle, along with an anise-like spicy quality. The spices overwhelm the malt and sour character of the beer a bit too much, making this a bit messy. Not spicy hot, but spicy as in a heavy spice addition hand. The closest thing I could compare this to mentally would be a bottle of OSA with an acetinobacter infection. Tap at Stone Sour Fest 2009. Pours a very dark brown, almost black. Wonderful aroma of spices -- mainly cardamom and cinnamon -- as well as some roasted notes. Flavor is only slightly tart and leans toward malty goodness. Tastes strongly of spices, again cardamom and cinnamon. Has a nice tangy finish. Probably the best of the ten beers that I tried at the festival. The spice combo is not quite right to give a holiday feeling, but I’d still be happy sipping this on a cold day. Tap @ Stone Sour Fest 2009. Pours a dark reddish amber with a small beige head. Lots of cinnamon, clove, oak and vinegar on the nose. Flavor held some coffee, spice and a bit of dry oak. Pretty solid, glad I got to try it.
