Bottle from Manchester W&L. Poured into a tulip glass. A deep ruby black color with frothy medium tan head. Aroma of alcohol and roasty malts. I let this one warm a long time. Flavor is smooth and silky. Lots of roasty chocolate and coffee notes. Medium bitterness. Some alcohol burn on the backside. Not bad at all.

There are times you drink a beer on a train and those are the times you cherish. This one was potent and relatively pleasant for a 11% barleywine.
The aroma is malty and sugary caramel. The appearance is TBD, seen in mouth it looked reddish? The taste is a slightly syrupy caramel degrading into a slightly smoky malt with a strong nose of alcohol. It wears the 11% strongly so is not the slightest chug in town. Good for a train ride as a prelude to a chaotic travel scenario that all worked out in the end.

bah, barleywine. It was ok, hoppy still, sweet and boozy. I do not like these, i did dump it out so i can’t go higher than a 3.4

3.6
hopscotch (11305) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - JUN 29, 2014
Bottle… Clear golden pour with dirty orange highlights and a small, fat-bubbled, white head. Decent retention. The aroma is a marriage of caramel and earthy hops. Full-bodied and fatty with mild carbonation. The flavor emulates the nose while presenting a nice balance between bitter and sweet. Lengthy, moderately sweet finish. Bottle courtesy of ctipping!
