yespr (49887) - Copenhagen O, DENMARK - MAR 26, 2008
From bottle, 10A Papsoes New Zealand vs US blind tasting. Pours hazy orange with no head. Dense fruity and alcohol aroma. Light oxidised aroma. Flavour is dark sweetish and malty. Solid caramel note and a woody dry flavour. Ends dry, bitter and warming alcohol. Mild spiced note. Very solid flavour. A bit oxidised.

Ungstrup (39531) - Citizen of the universe, DENMARK - APR 4, 2008
UPDATED: MAY 12, 2008 Bottled. An unclear dark amber beer with a rim of orange head. The aroma is acidic malty combined with notes of wood - I thought it had been barrel-aged. The flavor is slightly acidic with strong notes of over ripe fruits as well as lighter notes of wood. Thanks Papsoe for sharing.

Bottle. Muddy orange coloured with a small off white ehad. Sweet aroma of dried fruits, caramel and sherry with notes of alcohol- Sweet flavour of dried fruits and caramel with notes of sherry and alcohol. Warming alcoholic finish.

Bottled (2004 vintage, thanks jjpm74!). Amber colour, not much head. Aroma is plum, raisins, alcohol as well as some wood and vanilla. Flavour is vanilla, wood, oak, caramel malts, alcohol and a bunch of raisins. Also some strange licoriceish raisiny notes. Quite sweet brew, good for sipping, but not for drinking any faster at all. Wellbalanced.

UPDATED: DEC 25, 2007 Bottled Dark amber. Raisiny and caramelly with buttery thick sticky mouthfeel. Mild and warming, full bodied with lots of toffee and notes of bread. Wonderful winter warmer!

Papsoe (25055) - Frederiksberg, DENMARK - APR 12, 2008
(Bottle 35,5 cl) Courtesy of Degarth. Vintage 2004. Pours an unclear amber golden with a bubbly, off-white head that dissipates completely in no time. Fat aroma of caramel and overripe fruit. Full-bodied with plenty of sweet caramel notes, overripe fruit, herbs and toffee. Has a slight touch of hops in the finish. Quite lovely really and seems to get better with age. 250308

Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival 2007 afterfestival at Per’s, vintage 2004, 3 years old
Hazy dark amber color. Very nice aroma: malt, fudge, raisins, Christmas cakes. Very good mouthfeel, full malty flavor, with sweet caramel; good hopping, good ageing too. If anything about this beer, it’s too much alcoholic at the end, and a bit dusty. I love this aged, buttery Barleywine, excellent!

Hazy nut brown-red color, no head. Malty-chocolaty and also very barley-wineish aromas. Hard stuff, not very easy to drink: smoked ham, vanilla liquer and caramel. Barley wine kind of roasted. Liquerish palate. Just too simple BW without any character.

12oz, red waxed bottle, acquired in trade with jjpm74 (thanks!). 2004 Vintage. Damn that wax was a pain in the ass to get off. If it wasn’t for that piece of tape under the wax, I may have never gotten it off! And how do you think I get rewarded by finally popping the cap? You guessed it, I get sprayed with gushing that spewed out of this bottle. Poured a deeper amberish/orangish color with a huge sized off white head. Cloudy. Aromas of caramel, toffee, cherries and some other dark fruits, and sherry. Tastes of caramel, toffee, the same lighter dark fruitiness, alcohol, and sherry. Heavier alcohol burn. Man was this one hot.

Three Judges BW ’04-12oz bottle-pours a quickly disappearing light tan head with bubbles and cloudy copper color. Aroma is oak/woody, medium malt-non sweet caramel. Taste is oak/woody, whisky, medium malt-non sweet caramel, some alcohol. Sipping. Big, not my style.
