Bottle from bhensonb. Pours dark brown with a huge tan head and a chocolate and bourbon aroma. There is a medium-bodied brown malt flavor with a strong bourbon finish. A nice sipper with a reasonable ABV.

sonnycheeba (6695) - Federal Hill, Baltimore, Maryland, USA - MAR 1, 2017
Tap at brewery. Pours mostly clear tawny brown. Aroma is big bourbon, oak, vanilla, and caramel notes with soft earthiness and dates. Flavor is toasted and caramel malts, soft booze, some woodiness, and some dark fruit notes. Medium body, but a little watery.

snoworsummer (6401) - baltimore, Maryland, USA - FEB 25, 2017
Draft at the brewery. Pours clear ruby brown with a creamy beige head. Tastes like dried fruits, roasted malt, charred wood, and light booze. Light/medium body and low carbonation. Smells like dried fruits, earthy malt, charred wood, and light booze.

My Bottom Line:
Lightly roasted and caramelized nuts envelop cherries before bitter resins and wood complete this barrel-aged strong ale.

Further Personal Perceptions:
-A sheet of foam tops the misty pale brown.
-The flavour profile is rather delicate for a strong ale, which I appreciate.
-Mouthfeel is on the lean side for the category.
-Vanilla oakiness licks the finish.
-Flavor clarity is exceptional. This isn’t one of the big, boozy, messy strong ales.

hopdog (13315) - Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 2, 2015
22oz bottle. 2015 vintage. Poured a deep brown with a smaller sized off white head. Bourbon, vanilla, chocolate, and a lighter roast.

bhensonb (16137) - Woodland, California, USA - NOV 18, 2015
Bomber from Bine & Vine. Pours brown with a foamy tan head. Aroma of nuts and bourbon. Med + body or better. Flavor is nutty, somewhat chocolaty, bourbon and a rather sour oak aspect. Not mouthshaking, but in a sour woody direction. The bourbon could be stronger, the nut could be lighter, but it’s a nice thing. Finishes arguably dryer than not.

Marheb (6343) - Montréal, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 23, 2015

BeerandBlues2 (14422) - Escondido, California, USA - FEB 13, 2015
Tap at the brewery. Pours clear tawny with a medium, frothy beige head, medium retention with light lacing. Aroma is toast and light caramel malt, dates, vanilla and bourbon with light oak notes. Flavor is sweet bourbon and vanilla, oak notes, sweet malt, dates and a dry finish. Medium body and carbonation.
