Troopers Tipple is a thirst quenching English Style India Pale Ale. You will discover a peppery, earthy aroma from the English hops and a medium malt body supporting a ballanced bitterness mid swallow and a clean, refreshing finish. Unlike many West Coast IPAs Troopers Tipple has less bitterness (38 IBUs)but plenty of hop flavor and aroma owing to the generous use of English East Kent Goldings, added in both the boil and as a dry hop addition in the conditioning vessel. Also Troopers Tipple is lighter in color and body than typical local examples and so is less filling, more revitalizing.

July 7th, 2013 - New Englishs Troopers Tipple markets itself as a wedge between West Coast IPAs and more English oriented brew fans, whod favor a spicier, more peppered hops than the IBU bombs dished up in most of our pubs and bars. I appreciate the sentiment, but the brew itself falls a little short of the goal. The aroma is marred by the smell of glue, which mingles with smells of tangerine, and a bitter orange marmalade, but the hops is almost invisible here. Restraint is good, but silence is not. The flavor is also underwhelming. Its spritzy and light once you dig into the sip, but after that it falls flat, delivering tired notes of orange marmalade, a shell of a hop character, and then the whole thing collapses like a malnourished beast.

>> Pours clear golden with weak foam. Nose is melon, candy, herbal tea. Taste is herbal tea straight up. Palate isnt as harsh as the other beers, but still not great.

Old rating that didnt get copied from BA. Tap at 5 Points. The pour comes out a fairly clear golden color with a nice fluffy white head on it. The hops are quite grassy and herbal, which was unexpected. A fair amount of malt, which is bready in nature, like you might expect in an English IPA. There is a decent bitterness to the flavor along with grassy and earthy hop notes. The biscuit/bread malt flavor is there as well, along with just a hint of citrus.

Bottle from Henrys Eastlake: Aroma is a faint scent of hops and grained malts that come across as soapy. The appearance is a golden blonde color with a frothy layer of head that leaves behind a sticky trace of lacing. The flavor is rather bland and boring with a soft touch of grainy almost bread like malts that allow a little squeeze of citrus shine through in the hops. Nothing special, but then again for the price, this gets an approval of being a decent beer to be sold around town.

Cask at the SD Real Ale Fest 2012. Clear golden Orange pour, white head. Grain, cereal malts, light citrus and grassy hops. Very light, not the best IPA option.

Bomber from K & B. Bright golden/orange in color. Spicy, earthy hop nose. A hint of sweetness as well. Somewhat bready in flavor with a good amount of English tasting hops. Crisp and smooth. Good example of an English styled American IPA.
