COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We invite you to discover this newest beer style Black IPA. Political debate rages over the origins of this jet black beer as both coasts feel they deserve credit. Our Black Top is a pleasant road connecting Villages and Communities statewide on a ride of Black IPA discovery. Expect this beer to pour a hop forward jet black glass brimming with aromatic bitterness. Brewmaster Dan skillfully weaves molasses and chocolate malt undertones with a soaring rush of clean citrus and pine hop notes, to deliver a drinkable Black IPA. Savor Black Top, like Wisconsin’s miles of licorice ribbons of ink that meander through armies of corn and bovine mowed fields. Enjoy the journey on a road less traveled.

Deep black color as the thickest stout, light creamy beige head with some cling to the sides up the glass (duvel glass out of a 12 oz bottle). Aroma of hay, pine, citrus, coffee, and molasses. Flavor of toffee, dates, then some pine and citrus works through that. Medium body, creamy finish with contrast of bittering hops at the same time. Very enjoyable and complex, pair with a full ripe blue cheese and its heaven.

Bottle from my main man CanIHave4Beers. Pours a really lovely near-black with a pillowy, soft and foamy light tan head. Nose shows licorice, pine resin, chocolate and some orange bitters. Taste adds sweetness and a bit of bitterness. Don’t love this style but this one really grew on me.

UPDATED: FEB 17, 2015 Again New Glarus delivers a winner. Decently hopped but has enough other stuff going on to make it interesting. It also knows when to pull back. Found love from some friends that don’t even like IPAs. Serving: Bottle

Pours a murky dark brown with a nice light tan head and lots of lacing. Nose is citrus, pine, hops, chocolate, caramel, and malts. Taste is citrus, lemon, black pepper, hops, caramel all perfectly balanced with some faint chocolate. Creamy palate with light carbonation. Finish is dry with a nice citrus taste that lingers. Another winner from arguably America’s best brewery!

Trev (2023) - Lakeville, Minnesota, USA - SEP 10, 2012
Dark brown pour with a medium beige head. aroma is nice roasted malt, chocolate, citrus. Very light and a bit thin on the palate in the front. Wanting a bit more depth of roasty flavour here. LIght roasted malt flavour with a thin herbal hop presence. Dissappointing from NG.

Poured from a refrigerated bottle received from weihenheizen. Thank you! Pours a darker amber to brown color with a large, everlasting head of beige foam. The aroma is very malty and sweet with just a touch of piny hop presence. Taste is mostly sweet with some bitterness coming through mid finish.

Refrigerated 12 oz. brown bottle poured into a shaker. Pours tranlucent dark brown with small off-white head. Good thin small bubble lacing, medium body, smooth texture, and pine aroma. Taste is pine, some roasted malt, and some herbal hops. Not bad, just not my thing.

haukur (2079) - Kópavogur, ICELAND - SEP 7, 2012
Interesting stuff, malty aroma along with the hops, more malty than I expected. Some bitterness but slightly easy. Obvious hops but also some burn and malt. Balanced but was expecting a bit more

UPDATED: SEP 13, 2012 Bottle from pack rat vinny. Cheers! Aroma citrus/dark fruit. Black/ brown body. Molases provides great mouth feel and sweetness. Citrus upfront then pine which echoes then subdued by malt/chocolate finish. A very inspiring ale indeed.

Bottle from Darknole, thanks. A black/brown colored beer, with a beige head. The aroma of dark fruits, bitter hops and spices. The taste of dark sweet fruit, bitter hops and notes of spices. The aftertaste is sweet with bitter.
