I drank this on tap at the brewery in New Glarus. It could have tasted awful but doesn't matter when you're in heaven. Love the hops.

Cellared and shared 12 oz. bottles poured to snifters, showing a black/brown color, with a touch of amber highlighting at the stem, light tan froth to bubbly film, and spotty lacing. The nose was roasted, wood, molasses, and mocha notes. Medium bodied, the taste offered the same notes, with a bit of creaminess to the mouthfeel, but a diminished, citrus & pine bitterness that still retained some dryness for the finish. Enjoyable, but will have to try fresh when up in WI.. 1pintatatime (162) - Madison, Wisconsin, USA - MAY 30, 2014
Highly carbonated and pours nearly black with a thick and rich tan head. Flavor is somewhat muted at first with burnt toast and dark chocolate flavors followed by a nice dry finish that brings out some of those chocolate flavors a bit more. This might benefit from drinking a few degrees warmer than your average IPA. I don’t know that this would be my go-to style, but it’s well done. Would drink again. Very interesting and tasteful. Black pour with some ruby highlights. Soft heat. Aroma of molasses and caramel. Taste is a smooth blend of caramel malt, cocoa, molasses and finishes with a pine hops bite. TXBadger (2811) - Dallas, Texas, USA - APR 24, 2014
One of my first ever black IPAs. Molasses, cocoa, and bread on the nose, following onto the palate. Finishes with an interesting pine/grass note to give this a nice backbone.

Pours a dark brown with a medium sized, light tan head that doesn’t last all that long. The aroma gives you a strong citrus impression, with lots of grapefruit and pine. It has a malty balance of chocolate, some licorice, and light coffee as well. The taste has a heavy hoppy bitterness to it. Lots of pine, with milder grapefruit and chocolate. I still get hints of licorice. Aftertaste is short, with pine and some coffee. Medium bodied, lots of lively carbonation, with a very hoppy texture. I enjoyed this. Its a very good representative of this style. troyc (2869) - Illinois, USA - APR 16, 2014
[Bottle] Pours a very dark shade of brown with a rocky brown head. Nose is more malt based than expected. The taste is of piney hops, chocolate malts and grains. Moderately bitter. A lighter black IPA, but much more sesionable as well. Tasting notes from 2012. jkwood04 (5448) - Connecticut, USA - APR 3, 2014
12oz bottle in a tulip. Pours dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of lightly roasted malts, light chocolate, and a decent amount of floral hops. Flavor the same, all sort of light. Average texture. Decent but not the best of its style. EricTeusink (700) - Atlanta, Georgia, USA - MAR 30, 2014
LSU Game Day Tasting. Notes are pretty sparse on this brew. The roasted malts doesn’t over power the natural hoppiness of the and IPA. One of the best Black IPA’s I I’ve ever had. Bottle - Tasted at Sharing jayzz (481) - Illinois, USA - MAR 16, 2014
Very enjoyable black ipa. Aroma and taste convey fresh pine and hay. There is also some flavor of coffee and cocoa.
