COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We invite you to discover this newest beer style Black IPA. Political debate rages over the origins of this jet black beer as both coasts feel they deserve credit. Our Black Top is a pleasant road connecting Villages and Communities statewide on a ride of Black IPA discovery. Expect this beer to pour a hop forward jet black glass brimming with aromatic bitterness. Brewmaster Dan skillfully weaves molasses and chocolate malt undertones with a soaring rush of clean citrus and pine hop notes, to deliver a drinkable Black IPA. Savor Black Top, like Wisconsin’s miles of licorice ribbons of ink that meander through armies of corn and bovine mowed fields. Enjoy the journey on a road less traveled.

Bottle acquired by the wife in Madison. Pour is deep brown with a frothy cream head and great lacing. Marshmallow, roast, grapefruit, candied oranges, bready, and herbal aroma. Taste is hoppy, somewhat husky, toasty, grapefruit, pine, a hint of chocolate and grainy with a light bitter finish. Full mouthfeel with medium carbobation. Decent black IPA, but nothing really stands out to me.

Another gusher from New Glarus. Pours almost black. Nose smells just like a regular IPA with only a hint of roast and charcoal. Simple bitterness, lots of piney and nutty aspects. Actually a little creamy in the mouthfeel.

This is one of my favorite Black IPA's even though it is not a standard IPA's. Very fruity aroma with a black licorice taste and nice long finish.

Black pour with a quarter to half inch off white head and thick striped lacing ... aroma is all the way piney and citrusy hop oils .... taste is very balanced however and of sweet caramel malts, chocolate, roasted malts along with a nice piney/citrusy hop flavor ... mouthfeel is roasted and oily with that slick hop oil ... finish is bitter and roasted with a slight lingering bitterness ..... solid and more of a balanced Black IPA

A super tasty black ipa. Really fruity and pours almost black. Really hoppy and has a nice bitter finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

My favorite style. This is an interesting take on black IPAs. Not as bitter or hoppy as is typical, nor as malty, but there's a wonderful flavor here that I can't pinpoint. Licorice? Don't use this as prototypical of the variety, but do try it! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours brownish black. Tan head. Earthy hop taste. Flowery smell. Interesting twist on an IPA.

On tap at the hilltop brewery. Deep brown with a large beige head. Aroma is of pine, roasted malts, resin. Taste is of pine, light chocolate, grass, and citrus.

Poured from bottle into pint glass. Pleasantly surprised by this. Black appearance, but not overly so, as light penetrates quite easily. Nice piney hops aroma with not much else. Excellent smooth mouthfeel with subdued carbonation that prevented the the beer from becoming too sharp. Taste was excellent, the hops weren't very aggressive and neither were the roasty notes, leaving a well balanced beer that actually tasted like a "real" style rather than an experimental IPA offshoot that so any black IPAs suggest. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Buttery, citrus aroma. Deep rich color with hints of caramel. Rocky head that doesn't last too long. Medium citrus flavor with a slightly wheaty tone to it. Finishes clean. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
