COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We invite you to discover this newest beer style Black IPA. Political debate rages over the origins of this jet black beer as both coasts feel they deserve credit. Our Black Top is a pleasant road connecting Villages and Communities statewide on a ride of Black IPA discovery. Expect this beer to pour a hop forward jet black glass brimming with aromatic bitterness. Brewmaster Dan skillfully weaves molasses and chocolate malt undertones with a soaring rush of clean citrus and pine hop notes, to deliver a drinkable Black IPA. Savor Black Top, like Wisconsin’s miles of licorice ribbons of ink that meander through armies of corn and bovine mowed fields. Enjoy the journey on a road less traveled.

Thanks to Rogueone for sharing a bottle. Dark brownish-black with a touch of red around the edges. Medium tan head that dissipates steadily, and stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of toasted malt, pine and hops. Medium body with a resiny hops character and notes of grapefruit and caramel malt. The finish is very clean with a moderately bitter piney hops aftertaste. Solid Black IPA overall.

Black IPAs, I usually hate them because they are really lame and un-thought-out recipes. Maybe NG can change my mind. 12 oz bottle. It pours a dark brown with a foamy tan head. Definitely looks nicer than most of these types of brews. The smell is really nice. It emanates from the glass even when you don’t have your nose up to it. It smells like a big time dipa or something but with a hint of cocoa. It is nice and fresh which helps it. Very resiny. The flavor isn’t as great, but it is better than most black ipas. It has a bitterness that lingers on the back of the tounge. The flavor is very citrusy with some sugary malt and a hint of roastiness on the back end. It is still kind of jumbled but at least black ipas are evolving into something a bit more drinkable.

"the hoppy stuff has been the only chink in the new glarus armor. nothing bad, but definitely not standouts like the fruit beers...or the wheats...or the barleywines...or the lagers :) this ended up being a very nice, well-done session ale. lighter in all aspects than the majority of black ipas i;ve had, but very pleaseant and well balanced at the same time. reminded me of the hop and malt profile of odell mnt standard, and awesome black ipa...just a ton lighter. easy drinking and refreshing, though. thanks Lou, for the liver damage!"

12 oz bottle. (Kwik Trip) Lake Mills, WI.
Dark reddish brown colour with a small tan head. Grassy and fruity hops, liquorice, mild roasted malt and mild bitterness in a delicious aroma. Very balanced. The flavour is a bit more leaning to a porter and the aroma to an IPA. Roasted malt, bitterness, berries and grassy hops in the flavour. Nice and tasty.

daknole (11049) - Scottsdale, Arizona, USA - NOV 29, 2011
Very dark brown pour, a tan head. Aroma has a great juicy hop note up front followed by some roasty malt notes. Flavor is so smooth...hoppy but not overly bitter. The chocolate and sweet notes shine as well as the hops. Skillfully done!
