COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
We invite you to discover this newest beer style Black IPA. Political debate rages over the origins of this jet black beer as both coasts feel they deserve credit. Our Black Top is a pleasant road connecting Villages and Communities statewide on a ride of Black IPA discovery. Expect this beer to pour a hop forward jet black glass brimming with aromatic bitterness. Brewmaster Dan skillfully weaves molasses and chocolate malt undertones with a soaring rush of clean citrus and pine hop notes, to deliver a drinkable Black IPA. Savor Black Top, like Wisconsin’s miles of licorice ribbons of ink that meander through armies of corn and bovine mowed fields. Enjoy the journey on a road less traveled.

Bottle thanks to 17thfloor. Pours deep brown with a small creamy light tan head. Aroma is roasty and sweet, lots of cocoa in there, some piney hops in the back, surprisingly sweet and chocolatey on the nose some oxidation. Flavor is the same, sweet and roasty, oxidation on the hops but it works ok, just makes it less IPA’y and more of a stout with some extra hops. Medium body and a soft carbonation,

Sampled at gregwilsonstl's house. It poured a black color with a tan head. The aroma was of pine, chocolate, molasses and citrus. The taste was similar to the aroma with more pine, chocolate, molasses, citrus and hops. It had medium carbonation with a nice bitter sweet aftertaste. Tasty.

Strykzone (7659) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - NOV 18, 2017
Sampled at Gregwilson’s tasting. Very murky dark brown. A lot of bubbles. Dark complex fruit with roast and toast. Earth and tropical fruit. Melon zest bitterness.

Dark black. Malty. Chocolate. Pine. Tasted at my Plants and Animals Bottle share.

Pours a hazy brownish black on tap with bubbly tan brown head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma of mild piney and citrus hops with a solid roasted and chocolate malt backbone. Taste follows, nothing super assertive, but balance is solid and nothing offensive. When this was first made it was a new style, now its a little played out, but this is a decent one.

Roasty malt aromas with spicy, citrus hops. Sparkling liquid with dark brown color under a sparkling tan head. Light to medium body with a bitter finish. Average carbonation. This has become my fave New Glarus brew

Draft. Pours dark brown-black with thick, light tan head and substantial lacing. Floral and pine hop aroma. Bright pine hops upfront followed by some subtle chocolate malt notes.

From an old bottle. Taste is roasted malts first, followed by a good hop bitterness and flavor.

Dark brown liquid with a moderately sized creamy light tan head. Scents of pine and mild citrus atop some roasted malt, mild dark chocolate and coffee. Light sweet start that leads to mild juniper and citrus. A return of roasted and toasted malt in the finish. Linger mix of malt and pine. Nice.

Sweet malty aroma with some blackstrap molasses. Deep cola brown, clear. Pleasant herbal notes over caramelized sugars. Rich but not chewy. Very drinkable. Thanks to the crowd down at Proof Production, from their stash.

Smell is piney and malty. Taste is equal parts roast, malt, and hops. I don’t normally like IPAs, but this one is decent. It is important to note that the bottle was old.
