12 oz. bottle, bonus’d to me by ekoerper (thanks Ed), pours a deep dark brown / black with a medium foamy beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, spruce trees, and citrus and piney hops. Flavour brings out caramel and roasted malts upfront, a bit of chocolate, and a solid but slightly underwhelming citrus hop backing. Well-balanced, though perhaps slightly weak on the hop profile, or maybe I’ve become jaded by these over-the-top black IPAs - it seems like more of a hoppy brown ale. Whatever it is, it’s well-constructed and highly drinkable. Great stuff.
A new glarus beer I haven’t had before! What better time that a week in Wisconsin to try it? StoutBeerReviews (257) - Kenosha, Wisconsin, USA - DEC 3, 2017
dont see many black ipa's so this is kind of a novelty. new glarus never fails to make a good beer, no complaints on this one. jandd1983 (4637) - Wentzville, Missouri, USA - NOV 19, 2017
Sampled at gregwilsonstl's house. It poured a black color with a tan head. The aroma was of pine, chocolate, molasses and citrus. The taste was similar to the aroma with more pine, chocolate, molasses, citrus and hops. Strykzone (7714) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - NOV 18, 2017
It had medium carbonation with a nice bitter sweet aftertaste. Tasty.
Sampled at Gregwilson’s tasting. Very murky dark brown. A lot of bubbles. Dark complex fruit with roast and toast. Earth and tropical fruit. Melon zest bitterness. gregwilsonstl (2688) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - NOV 18, 2017

Pours a hazy brownish black on tap with bubbly tan brown head that leaves moderate lace. Aroma of mild piney and citrus hops with a solid roasted and chocolate malt backbone. Taste follows, nothing super assertive, but balance is solid and nothing offensive. When this was first made it was a new style, now its a little played out, but this is a decent one. randy1969 (92) - Marengo, Illinois, USA - OCT 19, 2017
Roasty malt aromas with spicy, citrus hops. Sparkling liquid with dark brown color under a sparkling tan head. Light to medium body with a bitter finish. Average carbonation. This has become my fave New Glarus brew Carlisle (816) - Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 15, 2017
Draft. Pours dark brown-black with thick, light tan head and substantial lacing. Floral and pine hop aroma. Bright pine hops upfront followed by some subtle chocolate malt notes. kathouse (1940) - LAS VEGAS, Nevada, USA - MAY 30, 2017
From an old bottle. Taste is roasted malts first, followed by a good hop bitterness and flavor. JPDIPSO (6293) - Wauwatosa, USA - FEB 3, 2017
Dark brown liquid with a moderately sized creamy light tan head. Scents of pine and mild citrus atop some roasted malt, mild dark chocolate and coffee. Light sweet start that leads to mild juniper and citrus. A return of roasted and toasted malt in the finish. Linger mix of malt and pine. Nice.
