100% Wisconsin malt of six different varieties impart the natural toasted color to the bottle conditioned unfiltered ale. Clean hazelnut notes result from these carefully chosen barley malts. Hops from Slovenia, Bavaria and the Pacific Northwest give Fat Squirrel its backbone.

Fat squirrel pours a rich deep rust brown with a very thin head of small white bubbles. Nose is sweet nut happiness. Taste is slightly nutty with just a hint of sweet malt. ends with just a hint of nutty dry finish.

A whole lot of love and local malt went into fat squirrel. The name isnt misplaced. This is a hearty winter brew thatll stick to your bones. Rich, nutty aroma with lots of toasted malt sugar. Caramel, chocolate, hazelnut, and lightly spicy hops at the finish. Brown Ales are often treated like a half-assed one-off for most breweries. New Glarus doesnt appear to have any throwaway styles.

12 oz bottle. (Festival Foods) La Crosse, WI.
Clear reddish brown color with a small off-white head. Nuts, wood, mild hops, some bitterness, dryness and sweetish malt in the aroma. The flavor is nuts, nougat, caramel and malt in the flavor. Pretty decent brown ale.

About as nice an ale as I've had. Simple, nutty, malty and pleasantly sweet with slight bitterness at the end. Perfectly balanced and easy to drink. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

I purchased an individual bottle of this directly from the New Glarus brewery. Poured into a pint glass with a dark copper hue and a moderate head that left behind a nice lacing. This beer smelled malty with hints of nuttiness. The taste was smooth with the malt and nut combining together nicely. There was also just a bit of hop bitterness. Yet again New Glarus has made a fantastic beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a clear orange/brown color with a tan head. The smell is toasted malt, spice, brown bread, caramel. The taste is caramel, toasted malt, it is dry, herbal and spicy with some fruitiness on the end. Light/medium in body with average carbonation. Nice cold weather beer...

Bottle. Brown with a tan head. The aroma was nutty malt while the flavor was the same with some hints of caramel. It was fairly well balanced.
